Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey guys/gals,

can anybody recommend a good online store to buy a camera lens. Specifically I am looking for a Nikon 50mm 1.8. Amazon have one at a great price but they wont ship it to Ireland  I purchased one from Simply Electronics but after that I read a ton of threads on the net saying that they were dodgy as the government, so I cancelled my order with them (hopefully anyways, they still have to get back to me!). Any good, reasonably priced, reliable store will do. Any recommendations?

    Thanks

it seems to be $120 in kea; after you add in delivery and possible interception by customs, i suspect it'd be easier buying it locally.

this website is handy although its based to cater for the UK so some dont ship to Ireland.

Just yesterday I received a Canon 10-22 lens from Simply Electronics. It took 11 days to arrive, despite their claim of shipping in 1-2 days. It came from Reading, not Hong Kong as I feared, and cost €300 less than the Camera Centre in Grafton Street and Liffey Street, and they claim to have €60 off. I'm very happy with Simply Electronics (except for the wait)

try Ian Kerr of Kerso for a price, based in Scotland there is no duty or import charges to be concerned about. A sound guy.

Lots of people from this forum have used him (myself included). I'll pm you his email.

I bought from One Stop Digital, based in Hong Kong.
I had to pay VAT to customs but got it fully refunded!
Delivery time was okay and lens is perfect.
I hunted around for my lens (Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 for Pentax) and they were the cheapest I could find.

A dutch shop/website. The cheapest you will find online for most lenses. As they are based in Europe there is no import duties to worry about. One drawback is that you have to pay by money transfer. I have bought from them with no problems. They are a bricks and mortar shop in Rotterdam.

+1 for Simply Electronics. I got a Nikon 35mm 1.8 a couple of months ago. 178 rather than 250+ I would have paid in a Bricks and Mortar. Took 3 days to arrive and shipped from Uk. Came with a Nikon Europe warranty too. I read the threads on here and figured they had recently got their shi t together and I could always do a credit card chargeback if there was a problem. Would buy off them again.

Read the FAQs probably a bit out of date now (even though I do have an updated version) if any MOD wishes to arrange it :)
