I purchased a lens for my camera off ebay a few weeks ago, only to receive a letter from the revenue this morning saying they are holding my item until i forward them my paypal receipt so they can calculate how much import tax to put on it, then there will be 21% VAT and a €6 handling fee for the post office to deliver it! Anyone else agree that this is a load of s***e???

They wont even allow me to collect it so i HAVE to pay the handling fee. Now I'm not that concerned because it's only €6 but thats the point!!

Stupid Country and all it's stupid bloody taxation!!!!

    Cool staaaaaaaary

PS: You need to do your homework for these things before you buy. You will always have to pay VAT so I don't know what you're crying about?

You bought something outside the EU and you got caught for it, it's a risk you take.

I can empathize with you, but you really should have expected this, there have been enough threads on the subject and most EBay stores warn of the import duties.

But it's better than having PAID duty to say, Digital Rev only to find Customs want you to pay again.

You will find Irish online sellers that once you take into account VAT and charges are actually offering a very good deal. It often a lottery weather you have to pay vat on something you import, I've never paid it on anything I've imported.

We're You're ok dude, deliveries from within the EU aren't subject to import duties

You took your chances on getting something much cheaper abroad than closer to home and got caught out. Lesson learned.

Hi, I am looking for some PC speakers (USB) for my daughter something cheap and funky. I found these SOYNTEC 2.0 Speakers Voizze™ 140 Black USB which I quiet liked but Amazon wont deliver them to Ireland.
Thought I'd buy them from an Irish website but I refuse to pay €11 for delivery. The speakers only cost that amount.
Can anyone suggest an Irish website that has reasonable rates for delivery?

And better again because Germany is in the Euro Zone packages often benefit from a fixed delivery charge ~ often makes purchasing from Germany more cost effective and speedy than from the UK.

Got hit with the same thing here in Germany, too when ordered some paint from the US. Oddly enough, when I reordered, I rerouted it through my parents address in Dublin, it got through no problem.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Ah, ok. But I guess there goes my slave-buying shenanagins from Hong Kong.

Doesn't matter anyways, the senders always forget to put airholes on the boxes. Lol, you should see the state of my garden. :pac:

Still think its a load of crap, if they wanna charge a fee on it then just make it one fee. I F*****G hate this country and it's policies!!!!!!

This one isn't peculiar to Ireland, most countries have similar rules.

It sucks I suppose, but there it is. You'll know better next time.

Komplett.ie would be a large Irish technology seller.

Bought a NFL jersey from the offical NFL jersey

    VAT is due, fair enough

What I object to was the €13 handling fee from UPS over this

Just so you know, your day won't be getting better any time soon! 25% of total price (goods + shipping) is my best guess. Might be more if they slap on a handling fee.

Edit: just re-read your first post. I'd guess 4% duty, 21% VAT + handling fee.

I particularly enjoy it when they send me a letter demanding to know an items value and it turns out to be a tenner or less including postage.

2 euro odd in vat, plus 6 euro handling fee. Priceless.

Well if our government are only gonna look after themselves then i'm gonna do the same!!!! If you wanted something and it cost €250 in the ridiculously over priced stores in Ireland, or you can get it online for half the price, which would you buy????

    €6 fee is lucky.

I had something shipped via DHL. They paid the import duty on my behalf (without asking me) and then tried to charge me €32 administration fee for doing so. I took the package off the delivery guy and paid him the import duty + €5, then closed the door. He wasn't happy....but tough, as I hadn't agreed to this.
