Forgive me for my absence from this fourm and the city centre since christmas,
But where exactly are the starbucks, how many are there and how many are planned to open?

As well as Thomas Street, there's one at the station (it replaced the old 'Platform Five' café/restaurant there).

Old ESB shop place on Harvey's Quay? Seems like it could work and being some life to the area. .

The old ESB would be a great spot.

Personally I think this would be a terrible location. That block needs to be redeveloped to a similar height as the other river front blocks. Not with a generic single story supermarket.

A rare moment of agreement between us :)

The former ESB site is as unsuitable for a standalone retail unit as it was for a school that was mooted a few years back. Quality office or residential accommodation is what's required here. Of course that wouldn't preclude the likes of Lidl or Aldi from setting up on the ground floor of a 7 or 8 storey block if the space was available.

The site was purchased over a year ago but there hasn't been a peep about what the future holds for it.

    Any idea who bought it?

Its rumoured that Aldi are going to locate on Sexton St. North across the road from Johnsey's shop. The old woodworker store is to be knocked and they are supposed to be building in the large tract of land to the rear of this.

I haven't even heard any rumours to be honest. Could well be an investment fund. Unlikely to be a local as there appears to be very few Limerick based developers operating since the economic collapse.

Something like what Vanquished said. An Aldi on the ground floor and then a high rise of apartments above it where the ESB was. There is the space there, a nice newly developed river area, a new bar going in and two restaurants. It could really bring that area alive if it had a supermarket also.

That rumour has been around a while. Aldi / Lidl would also have the option of Watch house cross, ready to go site, or Hassetts pub, which comes with a large site next door.

The former Certus and Elvery sports ground floor units could provide the space required. That block appears vacant and would be close to a lot of apartments.

Heard that around 8 or 9 months ago but nothing happened. Work has been done on the unit over the last few weeks, taking out the windows and putting in brick work but up to the other day the sign still said to Let.

That's going ahead, was talking to the owner the other day. Can't remember the timeframe he told me for opening but I *think* May-ish

That's great news! Are they hiring staff?

They looked for staff back in December so I'd say they are sorted!

That's a nice riverside location for a cafe - especially if they have decent outdoor seating during warmer weather.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,055 ✭✭✭Jofspring

Was hoping a restaurant was going in there so glad to see Jack Monday's. Perfect place to have outdoor seating and with a revamp should be a nice spot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 26,149 ✭✭✭✭Berty

It will really brighten up the area as long as they can capitalise on the outdoor areas for seating and hopefully put some life back into the area.

Hope they powerhose the exterior because it is filthy. I have faith in Jack Mondays to make a success of it because their existing cafe is brilliant

Allens have opened a second shop on William Street. A bedding and interiors store beside Dealz.

It gets pretty busy down there with people waiting for buses so I would imagine it will do well.

It's good to see the old Tourist Office being used. There's nothing worse than seeing buildings lie idle.Just wondering though was that meant to be knocked for a big plaza under the Limerick 2030 plans? It would be great if they could demolish Estuary House.
I guess that can only happen when alternative office space is lined up

    Sarsfield House?

Estuary House is next door to Henry St garda station.

**Mod Note ** Jeesis lads your sound like a proper bunch of kids. The thread is about "Limerick Businesses Opening", the posts weren't anything to do with that, they were election related posts, so you should have them over there.
5-10 posts a day........ enough said.

Anyway, posts deleted, staying deleted. Move on and discuss the topic. Thanks
