There have been quiet a lot of tourists around this year compared to other years and its great to see .

Unfortunately Limerick just doesn't get tourists which is unfortunate considering it has it's own strengths - King Johns castle, the river, extensive Georgian architecture etc.

Those amenities only appeal to a very specific type of tourist though - I personally don't know anyone who visits a place to look at the front of buildings or a stretch of water. Limerick needs more commercially viable & popular attractions to bring tourism in.

I’m noticing lots of tourists around Limerick. There is definitely a good buzz on a Saturday, especially in the market. Galway Centre is much smaller and compact so easier to look busy. Cork would be more comparable but then again they have a much higher population than us.

I know I'm late commenting on this, but dear god, that looks atrocious. Of the many old stone buildings around the city centre, that's one of the few in good condition, and it's going to be ruined.

    It is indeed.

It's hard to see the Council agreeing to this to be honest.

It is. I quite like the proposal.

I like the look of it also, there seems to be a fairly mixed reaction to it generally.

New cafe opened today next to SuperValu. Cafe also open today in former Triple Crown on Athlunkard Street.

Do you know the names of these places? Thanks.

The one next to SuperValu is called Lush. They are on FB: https://www.facebook.com/lushcafe.ie/

The one in the former Triple Crown appears to have kept the name Triple Crown.

There was an Italian cafe there wasn't there? Is it the same owners?

No idea about the owners. The Italian has been closed a few months.

Ahh ok, considering I go into that SuperValu at least once a week I should really have noticed that!

Hopefully the new cafe is nice.

The former flower shop (Flowers by Thea) on the corner of Cecil St & Catherine St is getting a make over - hopefully there's a business going to open up there.

Looks like a Hairdressers/Barbers moving in there

Anyone been to the revamped Katy Dalys yet? Passed there a few times and picnic tables outside look really nice and bring a new life to Nicholas Street.

Why would Keelside Ltd be contesting a planning decision in Limerick?

Is Keelside LTD the Company running the Jetland Franchise of McDonalds? I can't find much on them online other the named Directors have been directors of a lot of companies.

    Showtime cinemas

    Showtime cinemas

That would only get more people into the cinema. My son, for instance, is only mad for KFC and would rather go there than McDonald's.

It will definitely bring more business, I'm sure Supermacs and Maccy Ds aren't looking forward to the extra competition

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭Reputable Rog

Why don't people just go on the LCC website and read the objection.
Keekside is a holding company for the ward family which together with their cousins run most cinemas in Ireland.

Cinemas want you to spend money on other things rather than just the movie ticket. Buying their overly expensive food and drink is what they are trying to protect, this is where they make their money rather than just movie ticket sales. Another fast food joint nearby just means you spend less money inside the cinema. That's where the vested interest was in the objection.

I understand that, and this at times prevents me from going to the cinema. I always fill up the young man beforehand so he won't go for the large stuff inside. I always bring a pack of sweets with me (usually from Lidl).

At the cinema st Mahon Point I always smuggle in a Double Cheese Burger, none of that popcorn nonsense for me.
