I was in Tom Collins' on Wednesday night and it was mobbed. Have found nightlife great since moving down in April.

Considering this is the forum for the city and the county I guess this is the best thread to let people know that the hotel in Newcastle West has reopened as Longcourt House. It's 4* with forty bedrooms.

went to the commercial, amber and flannerys extension over the weekend. the first 2 were mobbed, while flannerys was busier than both, just a massive venue so you had some room to breath!

Great to see all these new venues opening. At long last, there is genuine choice and variety to Limerick nightlife, although I don't expect Nancys hegemony to be broken anytime soon! :pac:

Went to the commercial and wickham tap on Saturday night, both jammers with a really nice crowd in both. I've never been fan of Limerick night life but between Pharmacie, House and the aforementioned I'm actually enjoying going out in Limerick at the moment. Long may it continue : )

I've heard they are RIDICULOUSLY expensive.

Went in today with my daughter and what I saw was very overpriced, most of the pencil cases that I saw averaged 18-20 euro(there may have been some cheaper than that but I think I went into shock when I saw some of the prices :D).

People dont go out midweek because there are very few decent spots with any lure, midweek. If there was live music on or something to entice people, then more people would go out.

New places opening means more people will go out at the weekend also. Nancys wont be quiet all of a sudden because new places are open. Town will just be busier

There's great live music in Jerry Flannery's every Thursday night.

I don't know where ye all go that ye find empty and silent mid-week all the time.

Oh they will search until they find somewhere that's less crowded then Galway or Cork !. The truth is that Limerick nightlife is improving greatly.

Wouldn't be surprised if they are long gone by next summer, it's a shop of overpriced nothingness.

Pretty standard, same as the one in Cork.

Yes, well they are Franchises so need to look the same really.(within reason) but a fine big site.

The services station got the go ahead out in Coonagh. Existing nearby petrol station put in an objection which is understandable.

I'm struggling to understand the business case for this. It's 2.5km from the the Southbound exit and 3km from the Northbound exit of the N18 and they won't be allowed to erect signage directing you there on the N18. TII are building online services near Ennis and there's already a station at the Birdhill junction on the M7 so long distance travellers are unlikely to use it, which leaves local use. The only people passing it regularly are going to be those travelling to and from Shannon. Do you really need a pitstop on such a short journey? If it was being built near one of the full junctions and was only a few meters from either side of the motorway I could understand where it was going to get business from, but not at this location.

yes its strange alright. there are plenty of options available for refilling and for fast food. if a decent restaurant went in then i could see that being popular as there is very little in the way of decent food, but even so it would hardly justify this..

Hopefully it won’t be anchored by an established fast food “restaurant” like those on the M7.

Most likely there will be... which will be unfortunate considering theres another development going across from RIOs less than 3km away.

He has 3 plazas I know of. Obama, one on the M6 and one in Tipperary Town.

I'll try to equate this to Tipperary Town because it's neither on a motorway and has much competition around it. They say it's not doing well either compared to the others. It makes sense. Less passing traffic and no incentive to stop.

The N24 isn't a road you need a rest on. You're delayed enough you need to make up time as it is.

Nobody will really leave the N18 for this, the northern distributor road will help, the new LIT thing will help but another Topaz , another fuel station for that matter nor another supermacs will by itself be a draw.

Maybe if it’s a super duper macs they will come!!
A few lodges where you could stay overnight or even a short holiday... if the crowds in Obama’s and exit 14 are anything to go by it seems to be where we are headed!

Those service stations are literally beside the motorway, are visable when driving past and are a long way from Dublin or Limerick so people will stop. This is 3km from the N18 and not at a natural stopping point anyway. They're not really comparable, no matter what restaurant opens there.

Don't forget the N20 plaza, Mallow. Must be one of the busiest places I have ever encountered.

Oh yeah. that's proper old school though. I'd never go into it heading to Cork because getting back out is a nightmare. If they could get more parking around it then it would be even better.

Is that his as well? (Pat McDonagh)

Think there are further developments to be announced for that side of town...but nothing announced yet afaik.

Regardless of the tunnel there is still a huge volume of traffic passing that site daily
