Any word on Starbucks? They were looking at the location Costa are moving into on Cruises Street. I thought if the new shopping centre went ahead with M&S they might go there but that's a no go.

Also have M&S expressed interest in a city centre location?

I don't think Starbucks were ever looking at that building as far as I know it was all just speculation as at the start all people knew was a bug coffee shop from a large chain was going in there so they assumed Starbucks.

I highly doubt they have expressed interest in one. As from what I've heard they want a location where they can have their hundreds of parking spaces right outside or bellow the shop so people can drive right up park then shop and drive home easily. They're also a large supermarket and are not the type of shop that would be suited to a modern city centre in my opinion.

I see. It was a Limerick Post journal mentioning Starbucks but what you've said makes sense.

In the past M&S did look at several sites in the city centre but it would work best of them to have somewhere like the old Superquinn/new SuperValu out in Castletroy. But with the parkway development blocked, probably won't happen for some time.

If they aren't going to develop that Parkway site I wish they'd demolish those elevator shafts!

They will certainly require parking but Merchants quay, Eyre square and Grafton street would suggest that city centre is not something they would rule out.

Marks and Spencer don't need parking.

Their supermarkets aren't places that you'd ever do a full shop. You're more likely to go in and pick up a few things (baked goods, ready meals, food on the go, etc.) here and there.

Firstly I know a number of people who do their full shops in marks and spencers. Secondly yes they will want parking spaces right beside the shop. People aren't going to go driving into town searching for a parking space then walking to m&s doing the shop walking back to the car and driving home in traffic. M&S know this and will most likely demand parking in my opinion.

But this still brings into question should large shops like supermarkets and other large shops that require massive buildings and parkings have a place in modern towns or should they have a place in retail centres out side of town. I personally believe that they shouldn't be in town. I feel that town is for shops like clothes shops, shoe shops, small sports shops, coffee shops and many more small specialist shops all in one place.

Imo if M&S were at all interested in going into the city centre they would be in there by now.

BTW I was in the M&S in Belfast city centre and the supermarket is pretty big rather than a Tesco express type setup, people were definitely doing their weekly shopping in there too.

LIT have bought the old Instore building and are planning on basing a new fashion incubator there in the near future.
The new Munster training centre and second pool at UL are due to begin construction this week. Also in UL, a barber is opening on campus soon.

Are they actually building the second pool though? Thought it was shelved after students voted not to pay for it.

They're building a new 25m pool and a diving facility along with the Munster training complex to the rear of the existing arena.

I've seen Early September floated as the date for the GBB pub opening. It's now um, early September and I'd have expected some announcements at this stage for the purposes of advance publicity (i.e. me camping out to have the first Of Foam And Fury in the joint). They were running a competition to allow FB users pick a name for the pub and there hasn't been any feedback from that yet either. I wish they'd start naming locations at this stage and getting us all riled up for the onslaught!

I've never been in any of the pubs from this chain, are they really worth getting this excited about?

Well if people can get excited about a f*ckin supermarket that might never come here, then there's no harm in getting excited about a pub that very likely will come here.

Spot on!! Yes it is worth getting excited about!! Finally a proper brew pub in limerick, we've had half assed versions of them for too long.

Maybe some movement on this, crafty Fox are advertising for staff on their facebook page. Strange tho if it was GBB I would imagine they would set up a new page rather than advertise on one that has numerous bands complaining about not getting paid for a gig in the venue.

If they are failing to pay bands as mentioned above then I wouldn't be surprised if it's kind of a €50 cash in hand for the night kind of thing instead of a per hour rate.

Thats actually exactly it..50 quid per shift, no matter how long the shift is.. Did days from 2 until closing.. 50quid into your hand

Yikes! That's far too long to work for so little! Makes perfect sense now too why most of the taps are always empty. They must have found some money under the couch lately to pay Shane Long as they had some Fran Well taps going last time I was in. GBB will wipe them out the minute they open their doors. I'm hoping we get a nice Limerick equivalent of the Bierhaus/Salthouse Galway setup going if they do open. GBB for the straightforward beer appreciation and you can nip round the corner to the Blind Pig to stick on good beer but get a more ecclectic music/arty experience. Badly needed.

Was talking with one of the barmen in the Salthouse in Galway at the weekend, said they (GBB) were taking over the Crafty Fox, wouldn't give me anything regarding a timeline though

Delighted they are coming but that location is cursed. It has become another bitter end type scobe magnet regardless of who goes in there.

Bourkes would have been a much better location
