After the short course of last week's parkwest 10k, I just couldn't accept my time, I wanted an official sub 45. So Ro and I, the perfectionists that we are ;) signed up for Dunshaughlin and so down we headed yesterday evening. Arrived way too early and spent ages in the car beforehand. Not sure how we managed it but we jogged down to the start line with about 5 minutes to spare. This meant too that we were only a few rows back. While we felt a tad bad about that there was nothing we could do, we were literally crammed in there unable to move.

Off we went, first mile for me too fast. Had to rein it in and get a more sustainable pace going. Luckily I fell into a decent rhythm and the first half of the race ticked along nicely. Passed the 5k mark at 22.07. Knowing that I ran the first mile too fast and also that the second half was tougher, I knew I had to keep this pace going. The hill was ok but I began to falter slightly at the 7k mark. Luckily I was able to pick up speed and gain some momentum for the last 2k. I really gave it everything, my breathingwas insane. The cheers from the crowd were great. Official time 44.40.

Absolutely delighted with myself. This time last year I was going for sub 50, what a difference a year makes.
Great to meet so many boardsies too.

Up bright and early this morning (thanks kids), so a 'recovery/Lsr' of 10 miles done, pace 9'20

I did a run this morning and mentioned it to mam on the phone. She went mental telling me I was foolish blah blah. Then she went all serious and was like "now, what do they say happens when you run the day after a race.................oh thats right..... you die" and all chuffed with herself that she'd remembered what this proven theory was.
    Hopefully we'll be ok K :p
