I think Billy Piper said it best:

"Why ain't you paying your taxes no more?
'Cause we don't want to! We don't want to!"

Ah Ok that makes sense then, so just not declaring some of your income or giving yourself a lower tax rate?

You could get away with never paying VAT. Just have to buy EVERYTHING either online or up North.

Sell your house and buy a truck and mobile home to avoid property tax.

Quit your job and claim every benefit going. That way you'll go into negative tax!

Everybody is being asked to bring a heavy coat - so we can build a giant pile of them in Merrion Square and hide underneath until this bad thing goes away.

Came across this story over on the Daily Telegraph today:

'The Prime Minister indicated that the potential impact of mass immigration sparked by an Irish economic failure had contributed to the Coalition’s decision to offer an unprecedented loan of up to £10 billion to the Republic.'
Mr Cameron said: “We have to ask the question, what would the consequence be for Britain … if the Irish economy failed?
“There is an enormous migration takes place between Britain and Ireland. If the Irish economy collapsed, that would have a huge impact on Irish people coming to the UK for work.”

Things must be desperate to be using this line in 2010. It amounts to little more than "if you don't support this £7billion/£10billion loan we're going to be overwhelmed with the Paddies again, just like the 50s." Maybe the Irish government could agree not to accept that money and British financial institutions who have lent money to Irish businesses could agree to chase that money themselves without getting their government to fund the Irish state so that the Irish state can get the Irish economy back on its feet so that those British financial institutions can be repaid!

    Then we're quits.
