Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone else think it should be scrapped??

Why are they defending it in the four year plan? That agreement was reached when our financial circumstances were different, it should be torn up... Ultimately taxpayers and those buying goods are going to be paying to keep civil servants overly happy in a time of absolute depression for this country, an absolute disgrace, tear the f**king thing up you morons in government!

People seem to forget that Public servants had already taken big hits before the CPA - i'm mid-level and my net pay dropped 25%, so i'm f*cked if i'm going to agree to any more reductions, CPA or not.

All this renewed focus on the CPA was a deliberate move by FF to once again shift the focus to a Public vs Private argument - i thought people had got wise to that manipulation, obviously not.

I am sick of all the whinging and complaining on here about how the country is gone down the toilet.

I don't believe in violent protests but I do want to inject some money into the economy and help cut the budget deficit.

Yes, thst's right, unlike all the whiners and complainers sitting idly by bitching and moaning and doing nothing I am taking direct action to get our country out of the crisis.

I bought a giant panda bear in Shannon Airport a few days ago and I was going to give it to my girlfriend as she adores Chinese culture, but then I decided in these dreadul times as our country faces it's darkest moments to make this great sacrifice and deny my girlfriend the bear.

So I have decided to organise a raffle, the top three prizes are

    1. the giant panda bear signed by Brian Dowling who I bumped into at the airport (the autograph does not encessarily gayify the bear unless that is your perogative on winning - if that is the case pink markers are included in the prize

    2. chopsticks customised for use in Ireland with foldaway blade for cutting rashers and mini potato masher on top end of the sticks (surprisingly rejected by dragons den thus making it even more of a collecxtors item)

    3. a 200g pack of tofu completing the oriental theme

So please pm if you are interested, tickets are 10 euros and security is guaranteed as I'll only accept payment via paypal via pm. All profits from this raffle (after expenses, administration fees and personal VAT are guaranteed to be reinvested in Irish-owned businesses). I'm not saying the proceeds of this raffle will clear all our debt but I don't think I'm being overly optimistic when I say I hope to make a huge dent in our national debt.

If you want to help save your economy then please enter this raffle, your country needs you so put the cynicism to one side for a moment and dig deep in your heart, your soul and your pockets to preserve this little notion we all hold dear called Ireland. Join the ranks of Wolfe Tone, Parnell, O' Connell, Pearse and Collins and enter the "Super Oriental Love you long time Raffle for Ireland"

Romantic Ireland's not dead and gone just yet, a simple giant panda teddy bear calls out to the inert patriot within you to be roused and save the nation, do not let him down

Last October Germany paid off the very remainder of its war reparations owed from the cost put on it from World War Two and its winners.

We are now just about saddled with the same type of long term debt.

"No Ireland, we wont lend you money."

"What's that Britain, you'd like a loan of some money at an interest rate of 1.5% so you can lend it to Ireland at a rate of 5%?. Sounds like a great idea, do you take cheque?"

    You just need to sing....
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
    Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

    If life seems jolly rotten
    There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
    Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

    For life is quite absurd
    And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

    Life's a piece of ****
    When you look at it
    Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
    You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
    (Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
    What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

    This is the real economy!
    >
    > It is a slow day in a damp little Irish town. The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted.
    >Times are tough, everybody is in debt and everybody lives on credit.
    > On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through
    > the town, stops at the local hotel and lays a €100 note on the desk,
    > telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night. The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the €100 note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
    > The butcher takes the €100 note and runs down the street to repay
    > his debt to the pig farmer. The pig farmer takes the €100 note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel. The guy at the Farmers' Co-op takes the €100 note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the pub. The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit. The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the €100 note. The hotel proprietor then places the €100 note back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything. At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the €100 note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town. No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.
And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how the bailout package works

PS. german tourist is a self righteous reckless drunken gambler!! (for flynnlives)

    A political party who:

-Are not constricted by the limited gene pool or the buddyisms of FF or FG
-Could be considered in some way liberal-left
-despite being left, see sense and do not out of hand reject every pay or job cut proposed
-Have the balls and the morality to cut their own, and other top level public wages
-Can at least offer one of the following
    a) a some way clear alternative to bailing out the banks
    b) a long term, good justification for bailing out the banks
    c) A two line sentence, without lying, how what they do in the present, will make things better in the future.
-Inspire confidence in the fact that they are smarter and more progressive than me.

    Does such a party exist?
I would like to support it.

Apparently given up alcohol for as long as he's Taoiseach....well he won't have to do without it for much longer, he'l be off stage soon and can be as drunk as he wants.

I actually don't care how much or little our esteemed leader Biffo drinks,I'm sure it's a stressful time for him.

But I resent his role in bringinng this country to ruin.

Wheter or not you agree with the bailout or the degree of the budgetary cuts imposed, one thing that sickens me is the lack of equality involved.

Politicians havent announced a pay cut for themselves and they still insist on being driven around by gaurda driver, batt o keefe even used his to go to the pub last night. How can they show such contempt for the irish people?

Im aware that reducing ministers pay and top civil servants pay wont solve the budget crisis but it will show some respect to the irish citizen. Its one thing taking the cuts but another to take unfair cuts!

    Right so have a quick read through this;

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/nov/28/us-embassy-cables-saudis-iran

My plan is simple, we build a nuclear weapon. Now granted we probably may have a few mishaps along the way. But once we have our weapon of massive destruction baby.... nobodies going to dare do **** to us.

There is only one glitch though, Fianna Fail can't be in power as they would probably would sell it to the ECB and put the proceeds into the banks.

    Opinions welcome. :D

First I'm gonna attempt to lodge some monopoly money into the bank.

I also may enquire on a regular basis in the bank for €5 million euro loans.

I might buy a megaphone for when the Fianna Fáilers knock, I intend to shout in a very dramatic voice "F%*K OFF" and then follow them around

Look out at the snow and marvel at it's beauty. Then make a hot cup of tea, or a hot whiskey to warm you up. Then realise that you have a roof over your head, a window to look out of, and the means to make a hot beverage, and smile.

I went to a comedy gig in the Laugher Lounge recently. EVERY comedians set was about the recession. Not a single joke about anything else.
Its probably just annoying me more because I paid money to go to a comedy gig for the sole purpose that it would take my mind off money problems....
