Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Which Mudguards?

    Hi All,

I hope this hasnt already been posted.

I'm looking for a set of decent mudguards for my Hybrid commuting bike.

I had a set similar to the below but they drove me insane, the part which holds the mudguard in place which is attached to the bike kept snapping which would result in the mudguard rubbing off the wheels. In the end I pulled them off in frustration!

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25794 (Not sure if they were SKS brand but looked very similar).

So looking for a set that would provide good cover in the wet but at the same time will stay on and not fall apart.

    Thanks :)

With a hybrid, you should have enough clearance to put on most mudguards, shouldn't you?

Chromoplastic mudguards are pretty light and should last for years.

There shouldn't be a problem with SKS or similar Electra full mudguards. They are a good product and I have used them for years.
What are you using to connect them to the frame?
Is it possible one of the quick release clips on the front mudguard snapped. If so they can be bought separately from CRC.
Preferably use P-clips or two cable ties on each leg.

Like Victor suggested, double the attachments with zipties

i have had those sks bluemels on my mtb for a few weeks and they seem good quality German made so far.

I added a mud-flap as well, as I know for the really wet commuting conditions they make a huge difference: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=20044

+1 on mudflaps. I've mudflaps on both my bikes now. Only have to clean the chain now if I actually get rained on; used to have to do so if just the road was wet.

    Hi,

I am using this one, don't use a front one at all, little need IMO, does the job very well, simple to fit, looks good and is cheap.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Polisport-California-Rear-Mudguard/dp/B00110CL7I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sports&qid=1290343574&sr=8-1

+2 On the front mudflap. I made one up from a slice of old inner tube and stapled it to the bottom of the front mudguard. Great protection for your chain set.
I got 15,000Km out of my last 9sp chain and the current one has 5,000Km on it. I didn't even have to change the cassette either. I have stopped cleaning the chain also and now I just put some used engine oil on it once a month or 1000Km.
