    Pray to who? Satan?

The Minister for Social Protection says people should ‘pray’ that the finances of the country improve.
Eamon O’Cuiv says the next three weeks, due to the government’s budget and four year year recovery plan , are crucial for Ireland’s future.
He says that not everything is in the control of the government and people should pray that things improve:

Fianna Fail are now passing the buck to a non-existent being!

    And their voters will obey.

    BAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAaaaaAAAAAAAAAA.

    Sheeeeeeep! :mad::mad:

He says that not everything is in the control of the government and people should pray that things improve:

God, cant prevent fires, flood, earthquakes, mine cave ins or child murder, but steps in when needed to sort out economic crises, top guy that Yahweh.

Praying seems like a good idea to me. Let's face it, no-one else seems to have a clue what to do!

RLY? - I suspect that you are following Epicurus' flawed understanding in this :)

I just can't believe he didn't specify which god are we supposed to collectively pray too

also if we pray to the wrong one will we be worse off?

    Christ all mighty!!!

what was he thinking being so vague??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,053 ✭✭✭Aldebaran

That's his solution? A bit of an aul pray? It would be hilarious if things weren't so damn serious.

I've said it before in another thread, but I'll reiterate it here: Fianna Fail and Catholicism are both a form of serious mental illness.

Onyl one who comes in here is Jakkass, but I wouldn't describe him as a nutter. It will, however, descend into a "does God exist" debate with one or two equally determined people - most likely Killer Pigeon will be one - and we'll forget what the thread was about in the first place. Remember the "David norris for president" thread?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Quite!! Can we assume that the two Brian's are now attending mass twice a day between discussions with the IMF and ECB?

    can you believe this bull****??

    http://www.highlandradio.com/2010/11/20/minister-urges-public-to-pray-things-do-not-get-worse/

Yes I can believe it. Think about every time there's a General Election...who do you see collecting at church gates? Politicians.

These cretins are only mentioning prayer now so that when the time comes the church will allow them take up their usual spots outside.

Don't blame the church on this one, blame the politicians.

What makes you think he'll care what you happen to think about:
    1) What he thinks about prayer or
    2) What he is encouraging prayer for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭Ronin247

I would like you all to close your eyes and reflect for a moment........now in your mind extend your hands and join with the other boards members and let us pray...

Dear Lord we humbly beseech you to take pity on us in this our darkest hour, give our great leaders the courage and wisdom to guide us out of this financial problem caused by satan misguiding the bankers and developers.
Please lord let the IMF protect the pensions and cushy jobs that exist and help the social welfare recipients live on less.....Amen

glad I did all the same

As mentioned above, did he actually advise people to go out and pray or was it a 'we'd better pray we get out of this alive' throwaway comment?

pray (prɛ) -verb: to do nothing yet think you are helping. cf. delusion

Ye Hypocrites, are these your pranks
To murder men and gie God thanks?
Desist for shame, proceed no further
God won't accept your thanks for murder.

So you're pro-praying for the economy then?

Ok, you start and I'll track economic growth for the next 6 months. We'll present the results to the pope, dis/proving the god hypothesis once and for all.

    E-mail sent:
    Are you for real?
Are you really suggesting that talking to an imaginary being is really going to lift this country out of the financial crisis it currently faces?

As an Atheist I find it extremely insulting that you would suggest that I should pray to your god for help during times of need, and i demand that you apologise, not only to me, but to all of those in this country who do not share your religious beliefs.

What you are essentially doing here is trying to blame the actions of actual living people on an imaginary entity. I thought it was bad when Charlie Haughey told us to tighten our belts while he was living the high life, but this just takes the biscuit.

I'm sitting here trying to get my head around why an elected official would even suggest that the current financial crisis can be helped by something invented by people who were trying to figure out natural occurrences, but I just cannot seem to find any justification for it.

Can you please explain to me how this god you believe in can suddenly make money appear?
Could you please also explain how this god has the ability to make money appear from nowhere?

If this god is as benevolent as you seem to think he is, why does he not answer the prayers of those in more dire financial straits than we are?

    I eagerly await your reply.

    Thanking you,
    Terry O'Dowd.

I'm drunk and just saw my mistake now.
