Why is traffic in Gorey so bad?? ALL the time?!

I know it is a heavily populated place but it's not like it's Tokyo either...

It's the amazing planning of the junctions and traffic lights,on the main junction below the Garda station there's no lights to allow right turns, you just take you chances, get stuck and viola gridlock. The other junctions along the main street are as bad.

You must not have been around too much before the bypass then so, hasn't been too bad since then :D

As far as the reasons go you could probably write an essay about them. It stems mostly from when the town was built it wasn't designed with so much traffic or such a population in mind. Areas around the main street (Eire street, Cluainin etc.) are far too narrow to deal with traffic avoiding the main street.

Planning in the last 10-15 years hasn't helped, the town has been let grow far too quick. I know hindsight is 20-20 but when the Community School was constantly struggling to fit students in even after an extension was opened in 2000 alarm bells should have started ringing.

If you think traffic is bad now, just wait till we get to some better times economically and all those shops that lay empty at the moment start filling up. ;)

Absolute contempt for traffic laws brought about by lazy, inept policing. The ridiculous decision to continue to allow parking on Main St., although if it was banned people would probably ignore it, the same way as they ignore all the other traffic laws, but why wouldn't they when there is nobody enforcing them.
I watched a van making an illegal right turn out of Esmonde Street with a Garda car two cars behind him, what did the Gardaí do? You've guessed it, SFA!
AFAIK there is one parking warden patrolling the whole town, how long does it take him to do that? I would guess a couple of hours. In the meantime buses are stopped in the middle of the road because cars, vans etc., are parked in the bus bays. There are few, if any, loading bays so trucks are double parked trying to deliver, the list goes on and on, but basically it amounts to one thing. The authorities don't give a fcuk.

gorey has the laziest motorists in ireland.

they must park as close as possible to the place they are visiting cause godforbid they would have to walk a min or 2 to their shop etc. prime example is the new court on the avenue, car park by the train st, €2 all day parking but they will park all up and down the double yellow lines on the road up to the court rather than use it.

bus stops, "sure im only poppen into centra or xtra vision" mentality

amber lights means driver faster or pull into yellow box to block it up for other lanes.

and the amount of people that drive with phones, no belts, kids in the front etc is frightening.

Hopefully, when the inner relief road from the carnew road through to ballytegan is finished, some traffic will be removed, or have other routes at least. the new tesco (if approved) has a new road linking the avenue roundabout up to the monument also, see pic below for that.

The town can be a bit slow at peak times like when the schools finish but generally it's not near as bad as it was before the bypass opened. Re: people pulling in to bus stops, the same thing happens in Arklow this is bad enough when there's no bus but recently I witnessed a car pull in to a marked stop right in front of an approaching bus and leaving it there!
