soundcard for recording live music + pc

    looking to build a reasonable pc for recording music,
    and i wish the great brains of boards in its spec,

    what soundcard do ye recommend with various inputs for mics guitars etc,

    if i was to build a pc or buy off the shelf, recomendations for spec please

    basically this is for a very musical mate who wishes to record him and his bands and do some home decent sounding cd demos and some post production

    I'd imagine you'd need considerable storage. What kind of budget is in mind?

    how would 700 to 1k go with a decent possible audio interface?
    (budget for can go as far as 1500 so i am just being told)

    big factors are ease of use and quality of recording,

    @indough what is the next card up and box up and how much? cheers for the help lads, its a new subject to me but it seems you can throw a pile of cash into this very fast!

    no prob with building the pc i can do that for him, not a clue as to what equipment he may need on recording front

    there is a new box called 1616m but it looks worse rather than better to me

    some people are a bit wary of the emu software but i dont mind it. also from now on pro tools is going hardware independent so he'll be able to use that with any interface
