Nice blow out this evening after weekend race and excesses that come with a wedding and 30th birthday party. No sign of fatigue in the legs and pace just got quicker as we went on.

Dunboyne on the cards for Sunday.

Just caught up with your log now Pete. Well done in Bohermeen and Ballbriggan.

Sucks about the race being short, plenty of 10ks coming up. Dunshauglin to smash that?

Cheers M. Was just doing it for a local race and not really chasing a time. Will be doing a few 10k's in the next few months alright. Hopefully put a dent in it.

    Sunday - Dunboyne 4 Mile

    4.01 miles in 28:33
    Avg Pace: 7:07
    Avg HR: 150

Third race in quick succession for me anyway and appetite for it slowly diminished as the week wore on with the weather, even to the point that I was out on Sat night for a nice meal and a few pints which were lovely. Got there in reasonable time and stayed in the hall with others from the club as late as we could and then made our way down to the start. Hard to say it was a warm up given the cold & wind.

Had no plan for the race even to the point when one of the others asked me what my plan was I didn't know. Decided then 7 sounded like a round number so would aim for 28 minutes (knowing I would probably feel the effects of the night before).

Got going and after the dodging of the first few hundred metres it settled down on. Bit of an incline up past Dunboyne castle trying to hold something back etc etc and covered the first mile in 6:54. Shortly after we turned onto the dual carriageway. This was fairly exposed with a sharp wind coming across it and slightly against I found. Was already struggling at this stage and this part of the course seemed to last forever but we eventually turned off it back towards the town and the 2 mile marker in 7:05. Were now into the wind and the field well spread out. Felt like pulling out and considered stopping. Small consolation was seeing the winner coming into the finish as I was heading out on the last small loop. Had pretty much switched off and felt like the wheels had come off. Mile 3 was 7:18. One mile to go and dug in as best I could I suppose but wasn't able to muster up much of a finish. Eventually got to the finish in 7:12 for the last mile.

Looking back I wasn't even that wrecked after the race and HR effort was less than for a 10K the previous week. I guess going into a race with no pre-defined target means your not really going to give it your best. It's that sort of distance that you rarely race so you don't have any big targets.

All in all a good bit of speedwork anyway and would definitly do the race again.

    Tuesday

1.55 miles w/u followed with some drills then:

2 x (4x400 w/45 sec recovery) with 3 minute recovery jog between sets.

    1:31
    1:33
    1:35
    1:36

    1:38
    1:37
    1:37
    1:36

1.57 mile w/d. 5.51 miles total for session.

Club started proper coached sessions last night and was a great crown turned up. A fairly easy session turned into a bit of a brute due to the underfoot conditions on the clay track. Slogged through it anyway pretty ok. times a bit off normal 400's but there was literally no purchase on the track so lots of time lost.

Lovely morning for a run. No wind for a change but still quite cool. Took to the hills for this one and also bumped into a clubmate starting a 20 mile LSR so ran a couple of miles with them.

What's up next P, or are you just tipping away at the training and race here and there?

Alright S, doing the GIR in a couple of weeks, more because a big group from work are doing it as I hate the course and event in general. Probably Boyne 10K & Dunshaughlin 10K to try and improve 10K PB and of course the small matter of Berlin all going well.

Are you on the road to recovery yet?

Hadn't realised you were on the auto bahn to Berlin too! Plenty to keep you going in the interim so with the shorter stuff as well.

Making slow progress, but progress none the less.
