    Monday

Another failed attempt at a run on Sunday night but decided to try again before visit to physio on Monday night. Pain came almost straight away again but I decided to try keep going for slightly longer and it definitly eased off. Became more of a niggle as I went on which was managable.

Ran for 25 mins which brought me back to my house but would have had no issue to keep going.

Physio stretched the bejaysus out of my IT band for an hour or so  Advised me to run this evening on grass for a while and come back to him again.

Fingers crossed for this evening and that I can start getting some miles back in the legs this week.

Ah P thats awful. I know its tough but i would go for complete rest for a bit or maybe hop on the bike ( hmm i should listen to my own advice ) however the rest bit i am doing. As you said to me you have a great base and missing a few sessions will do you no harm... however running on it will. I hope it gets sorted soon :(

Trying to catch up on people's logs. So sorry to hear about your injury. Hopefully you will get some round advice here on what to do. Chin up.

    HI;

I would take the rest of this week off and come back next week. Next do 3 runs, one general, one slow and the LSR that Sat.

    Thanks guys,

Have had a good bit of physio the last couple of days so hopefully that helps. In work late tonight for EOQ and may rest it tomorrow as well.

    @jcsmum

If it feels anyway better I'll probably meet up with you on sunday morning for some sort of short long run

Pulled up lame after just over 5 miles of planned 11 this evening.

Such a shame there wasn't a nice neighbour around to offer you a lift or say an ambulance ride :p

Seriously hopefully you're back running soon and the ITB is sorted out soon. Have fun with the torture sessions!

Is your physio working into your glutes?

    Friday

    4.93 miles in 42:44

    Avg Pace: 8:40

Set out with the intention of doing 5 miles and thank god was able to get through them :) Few niggles on the way around but a big improvement. At no point did I feel like I was going to want to stop which was a big plus.

Will try something similar tomorrow and then join the group run on Sunday morning for some sort of LSR.

Had entered the 3/4 marathon in Athlone but know I would be mad to even think about that

Any thoughts on what sort of LSR distance should aim for?

It depends on you, when I was battling the IT Band monster last year, once the swelling went down from the stripping I jumped back into full training, but obviously it depends on your injury and what's causing it, my issue was overuse and a monster heel strike.

Obviously I want to get back into full training as well as soon as possible. Will see how I am tomorrow before I decide fully. Probably see you on Sunday morning for the first few miles anyway ;)

Sorry P, what I meant to get across was it's down to how much your version of IT Band hell will let you do.

    Saturday

    4 miles in 37:31

    Avg Pace: 9:23

Recovery run after yesterdays comeback in ahead of tomorrows attempt at LSR. Was under orders to run on grass and not take any anti inflamitaries. Horrible weather and knee niggled a bit but not major. Hardest part was the boredom of doing laps on grass.

    Sunday

    15.05 miles in 2:20:11

    Avg Pace: 9:18
    Avg HR: 136

Met with Mr Slow and Jcsmum in the park not sure what I was going to be able to do but hoping at lease to get into double figures. Mr Slow left us after 4 miles as planned. Leg had been niggling a bit up to this but I was hoping it was just loosening out. Couple of sharp darts of pain around 5 miles but felt ok then again shortly after. When we finished our second loop and were having a drink after about 13 miles I was having problems with my garmin so were probably stopped for 5 minutes in total.

Tried to take off again and leg had completly locked up. I was definitly not a pretty sight. Jcsmum suggested walking which we did for maybe 50 metres and then I took off gingerly againbut the pain was definitly easing. did another mile before I decided to be sensible and left Jcsmum to finish her 21 and I ran back to the car. Frustrating but 15 is better than nothing I suppose.

Rest day today and physio tonight before I evaluate this weeks running.

    6 miles in 55:36

    Avg Pace: 9:16

Recovery run this evening. Trying to build the mileage back up this week without doing too much. Main aim for the week is a good LSR on Saturday.

Had sports massage last night which definitly helped. Legs a but sore in general but no sharp pain that I suffered on Saturday or Sunday. Picked up the pace for the last 800m and no reaction of any sort.

Will try for a bit further tomorrow and some miles quicker if I can (touches wood)

    Wednesday

    8 miles tempo run

2.5 mile warm up Avg Pace: 9:26 Avg HR: 134

    4 mile tempo (8:07, 8:03, 8:10, 7:52) Avg Pace: 8:03 Avg HR: 145

1.54 mile warm down Avg Pace: 9:30 Avg HR: 138

Working my way back into where I should be in the training plan as best I can without taking any chances. Reducing the mileage slightly as well on each run. This was meant to be 10 miles with 4x1200 but reduced it to 8 with 4 miles tempo thinking I would be better to keep moving.

Tempo miles were a good test and a shock to the body after a couple of weeks without and sort of quicker miles.

Just a general run this evening and then hope for 20 miles on Saturday.

    6.75 miles in 1:03:40

    Avg Pace: 9:26
    Avg HR: 133

Was not feeling the love for this run before it started. Was just feeling generally run down and wrecked. Struggled through although legs were tired and knee was hurting a bit.

Realised today that I had run 6 of the last 7 days coming back from an injury which may not have helped  Rest day today and hopefully pick up some energy for LSR on Saturday. Only I'm going out on Saturday night I would consider changing my long run to Sunday.

    20 miles in 3:06:14

    Avg Pace: 9:19
    Avg HR: 137

Met up with Jcsmum, Vaggabond & Digijem this morning and took in various parts of the Park, Chapelizod and Castleknock on our run. Was determined to get 20 done even though my distances had been down the last few weeks. Ended up doing the last 3 on my own which was a good test for the head. Leg was fine apart from one bad spot around 10 miles.

    That's 3 x 20 milers done. It's taper time
