Episode 9, "Kissing Your Sister", is Catherine's finished student documentary covering the day of the House vote on the Presidency. It's also a usefull guide to the series so far. It turns out that we haven't heard All The Language.

    PS: "Marjorine Films"?

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I presume it is Catherine's documentary production company, the name being a portmanteau of Marjorie and Catherine

That was pretty funny! That scene with Jonah and his uncle was great! I have to say that turning Jonah into a congressman was just inspired on the part of the writers. The show has really come into it's own now. Long may it run! I presume the doc was the final episode this season?

Season finale is next week. Episode is entitled Inauguration.

Loved the bit we'd already seen with Mike going back around to see was there a

I take it poor Selina is back to being Veep once Tom James wins and becomes president? I was enjoying her stint as Pres actually. I thought the promotion definitely helped the show. It was very lacklustre when she was Veep given the relative unimportance of the job so I'd hate to see the show go back that way. Also, she probably doesn't have need of the large entourage of lackeys either. Gary Cole is a great addition to the show, as is Jonah's assistant/boss or whatever he is this week. :).

That was great, poor Mike! And we got to see who actually chopped the wood in Jonah's video.

The scene where Jonah took that call in the elementary school classroom... "I'm eating so much..." had me laughing for a solid 60 seconds.

After Ep.10 ... I think I ought to give people a chance to catch up before I say anything. There will be a 6th season, at least. :o

That was such a funny finale. I've been sick the last few days so things in squonkland have been pretty humourless but a good laugh was exactly what I needed! Selina's insults were fantastic! It really looks like the new showrunner has had a look at ITTOI and decided to incorporate more Malcolm Tucker!

Reading up on Season 6 it looks like Selina will be an ex president getting used to life post POTUS. I hope she won't be too far away from the political world because I'll miss people like Jonah, Mike and everyone else in her regular entourage. My big concern too is that she'll have enough to do. The big let down in the earlier seasons was that the VP slot was pretty inconsequential. I think the show took a huge jump in quality once she got to the oval office.

Either way, this show has come from being something I could barely watch (I think I kept watching because Anna Chlumsky is so cute) to a show I wouldn't miss now!

    Maybe spoiler the middle bit?

This episode was all about the L-word. No, not that L-word, which only has a small cameo: I'm talking about Legacy, and the desperate search for some.

The more I think about it, the more I appreciate the irony of having Selina's fate decided by the incumbent acting Veep, Doyle, who clearly relished wielding the only power a Veep really has - the deciding vote in a Senate tie. It's about the only time a Veep can really make a difference, and Selina wasn't the one doing it.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure we haven't seen the last of Jonah, since the last episode had him on a couple of (minor) cliffhangers:
his testicle, and the chance of a girlfriend
    .

So what happens when Lowra is outed as a foreign born imposter? Does anyone know what the legal situation is if it comes to light after she's sworn in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,990 ✭✭✭squonk

I can see them having Selina on the sidelines for a season which would be good but I'm betting she'll end up back as Veep under James by Season 7, or maybe Sec of State. I'm not sure civilian Selina is all that interesting long term. I could be wrong. Also, it's as much her as her cohort of lackeys that makes the show funny. President Laura doesn't seem like the real deal for sure and I'd think she might be impeached if she's not the real deal, or I guess she could just resign. She seems like a 'hanger in there' kind of gal though so impeachment might be the way to go.

Season 6 is expected on April 16. In a piece in Decider, showrunner David Mandel goes in to a lot of detail about the characters and their motivations. (Spoilers for Season 5 if you haven't watched that yet, though nothing about what happens in Season 6)

New piece in EW about the new season has more details about what Selina is up to this time around, so could be slightly spoilerish. The most interesting factoid is that they consulted Mitt Romney on what an ex-politician does, and some of his experiences were influential on the script.

I thought the first was a little weaker, but did a good job of establishing where all the characters are now.

But the second was great. There was a few minutes (I think starting on the plane) where there was so many jokes packed together that some of them were only registering when I'd finished laughing at the obvious ones. And I'm sure I missed a few.

Don't think Gary was the only one struggling to keep a straight face when she said to use the Kennedy library as a reference point since he was also a part-termer.

    Thought episode 2 was fantastic.

Whoever had the brainwave to make Jonah Ryan a congressman deserves an emmy. Last week's dates section was brilliant.

Somewhat weaker this week but still great.

I loved the whole bit with Gary only using one hand throughout the episode. Thought he was just being weird with the bottle of water, was only when he took Selina's scarf off with his teeth that I realised what he was doing.

The whole bit about Mike not having a hotel room was slightly odd, didn't seem to go anywhere unless I missed something.

Little weaker then the previous ep alright, but still some great lines.

It's past it's peak comedy, that's for sure. The final scenes in series 5 with Selina standing around after the helicopter gave up on them should have wrapped it all up, a great ending. They are flogging the horse now. Still some great comedy (and Richard is a terrific character, not to mention Jonah) but the narrow storyline has run its course.

The latest episode, Qatar, is absolute comedy gold. A must see.

Veep was in the news recently after an Australian MP made the mistake of watching Veep while having sushi for dinner. He's OK, but he had to have stiches after he laughed so hard he choked, blacked out, and hit his face on his kitchen bench.

A great season finale for VEEP. Selina Meyer really is the epitome of the narcissistic but inept politician. More great one-liner put downs too. Jonah running for President was the cherry on the cake, he's such a great character.

I kind-of felt bad for Jonah at the end of Ep.9. I mean, the guy might be a clot, but to get dumped from the Congresional ticket and by his fiancée while lying in a hospital bed after getting part of his dick chopped off ... that was a bit much. So now he's a Presidential candidate, whch is vindication of a sort. He's back in with Sherman Tanz and his money too, but no mention of Shawnee: will she come crawling back to him next?

I'm halfway through the latest season and it's nowhere nearly the quality of the Iannucci Years. I'm not sure why he left his American baby to start work on another when Veep wasn't finished yet.

It's a mistake many show creators seem to make but I thought Iannucci was smart enough to stay manning the ship.

As mentioned, next season will be the last http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/hbos-veep-end-season-7-1036027

This is surprising given how close they were to the magic 88 episodes for syndication. One more season after the next would've given them that.
