Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Laptop HDD Partition issue

    Hi All,

My girlfriends sisters laptop has a partition on it. The main part i.e the one with Vista is only 10gb in size. (other partition is 120gb) As Vista is 9.5gb there is only .5gb of space available. I was trying to install the Service packs for her but could not as it needed 3gb of disk space.

I went into disk manager to try expand the main drive/partition but I could not, even when I allocated space from the other partition.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do or is reinstalling Vista the only option?

    Thanks.

The first thing I'd do is to clear a bit of space on the first drive. Download & run Ccleaner & that should clear away enough junk that you'll be able to install what you need.

Is the other partition being used at all? If the laptop is setup as, for example, a C: drive and a D: drive, then you can move a lot of user data over on to the D: drive as well. Nothing too drastic required, just a bit of tidying & reorganisation.

    Thanks for the reply bhickey

    I had done that already.

See the drive C is only 10gb in size and vista is 9.5 so I cannot make any extra space. There is nothing on the other partition but I cannot move any files to it and they are all Operating systems files

Copy everything over to the other partition and set that partition to master? Dunno if that would work..

If there's nothing on the other partition then there has to be a lot of stuff that can be moved. Try Treesize to get a definitive picture what's using up the most space and then report back.

    In particular, look at C:\Users

Also reduce the amount of space that Sysem Restore allocates for itself and uninstall some programs (then reinstall on D:).

Thanks Stephen but it sounds a bit too simple to be honest :D

Anyone ever hear of this working?

Would you believe I just started it up and now it says BOOT Manager is missing.

I think a reinstall is the best option at this stage. Thanks for you help lads
