My preference was USA>>>Austalia then everybody but Qatar. Didn't follow the Aussie bid but because the US and Japan hosted it recently I'd say they were fairly confident. Qatar is a disgrace.

Will you bloody grow a pair and travel ffs, they are not all out to kill you.

Somewhere like Saudi Arabia I could understand but Qatar, a country that has never qualified for a World Cup? Sad. Money talks.

not bad for a country with no city with over a million people. lets hope the oil reserves last that long!

Dont think europe can host it 2030, heard something about england not being able to host till then anyway.

Might be worth a checky bid though assuming we have repaid the IMF.

Qatar is just baffling, absolutely baffling,

The population and size of the country are going to cause major problems.

I'd say Israel will get a tough group for that one,

at the moment Israeli passport holders are not allowed in Qatar.

Where are they in the rankings?

Are the games going to be played in the middle of the night in Qatar? Because no body is going to be able to play in their June daytime heat. FFS, it will probbaly still be 30+ by night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,049 ✭✭✭✭niallo27

Would have liked to have gone to a few games, although in fairness it's 8 years away, who knows where we ll be then

The US should go do some pillaging so they have to default on hosting.

Really, really disappointed for England. Would've loved to have had that easy access to games as well.

    Russia you can argue.

    Qatar, seriously, fúck off.

and for people who think this is about football being 'global', that's not the motivation for this.

Qatar being chosen throws a huge spanner in that theory.

if global's what they want, give it to Australia; as annoying as that would still be for us

Disappointed for England who were offering to do more for football in other countries and it was a lot handier for travel!!! England should knock the idea of hosting on the head now.

Billionaire trumps Royalty all day long. Wonder if the widespread racism will be a problem in Russia. I think they will manage it ok and hopefully the world cup will be a change for the better for Russian football.

    Qatar is a joke.

    Gobsmacked Qatar got it.

    Jokeshop.

Is Lineker going to sh!t all over the WC again I wonder. careful Sepp...

    BBC...
1549: England bid ambassador and BBC presenter Gary Lineker has confirmed that England were knocked out in the first round of voting. They came fourth out of four. I'm stunned.

The stadiums will have air conditioning (!)

Qatar seems a bizarre choice really. Can you get a pint there?

The Russia decision I felt was wrong - who's really gonna go there for games? But within minutes it seems like an intuitive, ground-breaking decision of pure pure genius, compared to Qatar !

Air-conditioned, purpose-built, temporary stadiums and pitches. FIFA are committed to curbing Carbon emissions.

From wiki.... Sounds like it will be an expensive business

The laws of Qatar tolerate alcohol to a certain extent. However, the few bars and nightclubs in Qatar operate only in expensive hotels and clubs.

40 degrees c during the summer but they will have air conditioned stadiums which they say will bring temps in the ground down to 20 deg. Training camps will still be a nightmare and for the fans too.

I'm happy to see Russia get it but Qatar is a joke

Qatar better starting working on naturalising some more brazilians as they will be the first host country to lose their first 3 matches...

Hits 50 at times during the summer.

Qatar will now get some of the brightest (15-17 year old) young Stars of south american football, make them citizens of Qatar and then build a semi decent team around them for the WC 2022.

Actually he/she will have to grow a money tree to get to and around Russia and Qatar

How expensive is to get around Qatar, its like the size of Leinster?

Getting to it is likely to be cheaper than Australia or Japan (of the other bidders).

Oh and 20 years from Germany 06 til the next time Continental Europe is likely to host the World Cup again. For a place that's pretty much the centre of football; yikes!
