Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
Im looking to do my accountancy exams full time, which means going back to college in January for 2 years
The chap in my local dole office says that since the course is higher than third level ( i have my 3rd level degree got already in 2003) and its not a H Dip , that i cannot avail of BTEA or infact as i would not be available for work I would have to come off social welfare altogether.
Im 30,unemployed 2 years and back living at home. Surely i must be entitled to something for wanting to get a qualification that will enhance my employment prospects?

What you were told is correct as the rules stand now.

You will not get the BTEA if you already hold a postgraduate qualification.

Every day, the airports have a fast rising number of graduates saying goodbye to our shores, ranging from new graduates to those like you with a good few years of work under their belts already. Very tough times.

Tough indeed that a 30 year old man,now back living in the family home,is punished financially to try and do a course that will enhance his employment prospects. I was amazed earlier when told this.
its a vicious circle that is impossible to escape. on one hand i can come out of receiving social welfare and live on basically nothing unless i get a part time job which do more harm than good when you are studying or i can stay on the dole, leave the course off and keep applying for jobs and getting interviews where you dont have a chance as you're up against people with the qualification they're looking for
