Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Love the photo Adrian. Is there a slight HDR effect on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭Adrian.Sadlier

Thanks Jim - more than a "slight" HDR effect. Photomatix Pro 3 from 3 exposures +/- 2 stops, handhel. Taken this morning on my way to work - I had to pull in and take a shot!

I'm not usually into HDR stuff but that is probably the best one I've seen. Usually it's way overcooked. gj

I'm usually guilty of the overcooking but the morning light helped me on this occasion. Glad you liked it :)

Taken on Sunday morning, at about 8am, in Coliemore, Dalkey. The only other sinner there - another photographer. We discussed whether the sign at the end of the pier should be photoshopped out. As you can see, it isn't here.

Coffee and warm croissants never tasted so good, albeit two hours later.

I don't know if it's been asked before and if you're not willing to spill the beans that's no problem but how on earth do you capture and process your images? You seem to have a habit of making what would be a mundane photo for the rest of us look fantastic. The 'bokeh' below is just lovely:

    Thanks Kintaro :)

The bokeh on that Etsy listing is actually a texture layered on with Photoshop. However I don't really use bokeh textures very much anymore, unless I want a specific effect, so most of the bokeh you'll see these days are SOOC.

I do a lot of work with curves which is where the tones come from, mainly on the red and blue curves. I also play around with coloured gradients, saturation, black & white layers, and different coloured fill layers or coloured textures to get the effect I'd like.

At this stage I've saved a 'recipe' in Canon's Digital Photo Professional (like an action in Photoshop) that I particularly like and use it on most photos then tweak it to suit the shot. It's been a long process of experimenting, lots of fun, I really just like to play with colour a lot.

As regards to capturing the images in camera I usually shoot at wide open apertures for lots of bokeh and use mainly my Canon 50mm f1.8 or Lensbaby Composer. And I always shoot in RAW.

With the two shots above it was a matter of waiting for the right moment and having the sunlight in the right place. The snow was falling from the leaves in little sparkling drifts, so I played around with manual focus and shot of lots of frames to get the glittering effect I wanted :)

Fight Like Apes' MayKay being the most sexy woman in music that I know.

Disaster of a gig though - changed my settings from Raw to Jpeg basic without noticing. Teeny tiny pictures with no tone in them at all. This is the best of a bad bunch.

I forgot to mention my camera is a Canon 450d, that would probably have helped!! I don't think you can see my Exif data for some reason.

I posted one or two shots recently with a Nikon D3 and Zeiss 100mm f2 which were on loan from a friend, now that was an incredible experience, it's hard to go back to the 450d and nifty fifty after that!
