registering my Irish car in the UK

I just moved to the UK, bringing my Irish registered car with me. What steps do I need to take to register it here in the UK, and is it expensive? I need a car to get around in here, but it's 10 years old, and if it costs too much, it may not be worthwhile. Thanks all
