Still showing snow along the south coastal areas on Wednesday though. I'd take this with a pinch of salt/grit, could easily be rain/sleet by then, but thats what it shows at the moment :

I can't say i'm surprised. GFS is notorious for ramping only to back down in the end

I would not be too supprised to see the storm disappear from the models. In a way it's actually better. It keeps us on the cold side of the polar front throughout next week. An extremely cold week next week with more snow. Temperatures should be very low throughout. The East generally should see the most snowfall over the next 6 or 7 days. For short periods the showers may be sleety or even hail on the coast but I suspect most of the time they will be snow.

I agree with Weathercheck - snow showers probrably arriving after 1am tonight in the East quite close to the coast.

What sort of weather can we expect for the Kinnegad/Enfield area, am I right in saying this only confined to eastern coastal counties?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

12Z GFS wants to try and break down the cold next Friday but that's a long way off and the breakdown has been pushed back several times already so wouldn't pay too much attention to that.

Edit : Just looking at the rest of FI, looks like a cold reload anyway. :P

Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown Council notice: The Council will be salting and gritting County roads over the next few days in response to the severe weather forecasted for the weekend. The Council's fleet of snow ploughs will also be deployed to respond across the County in the event of snowfall.

Its hardly bad enough out to issue an orange alert?!

Its -30 in Norway and theyve only got a yellow alert in a few places!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭Cassidy28

Fingal county council where salting the roads around swords at about 3:15 this afternoon

Some very heavy snow showers in the last hour, stoppped for the moment but a death black shower cloud racing down from Mayo beginning to engulf the sky rapidly. This shower looks serious and would rival anything in the Midwest of the US and that is no exaggeration!!!! Very eerie tone of light.

That would be common in norway though and as such would not require an alert. Akin to issuing a heavy snow alert for siberia.

I can't believe it myself Leahly, It looks like a proper summer evening thunderstorm (they used to happen one time). Sky is pure black and but everything is glowing.
