Im from north kerry but heard that tom flemming from scartaglen has left FF and is running independent.
I never met the man but he seems to be well liked in the area.

Politicians are always well liked in their local area, mostly by their supporters.

I wonder how many of the new "Independents" will jump back onto the FF ship once they realise that they won't get anywhere on their own?

According to radio Kerry news, Teresa Ferris has announced that she will not be running in South Kerry.

That really doesn't surprise me... I don't think she'd have the support in South Kerry. Why would people in South Kerry want a TD who lives in Norh Kerry? EU elections are different I think.

I don't see any changes really in Kerry as a whole except with Michael replacing Jackie Healy Rae. Tom McEllistrim is useless useless useless... and I am a confirmed Fianna Fail supporter. But he will still get elected. Unfortunately. I wish they had run Norma Foley with him.

Kerrys Eye did a comparison between various TDs a couple of weeks ago, on the number of questions each put forward in the Daíl in 2010. Jimmy Deenihan was at the top with well over 400, and Tommie Mac (as he's affectionately known by his supporter(s)), had the grand total of zero. Even JHR managed two or three questions. I knew that McEllistrim was bad, but I didn't realise he was that bad.

I saw some comment on the internet, where someone asked the reason for Tom McEllistrim being a TD, because they could see no reason for his having been elected. Some smartarse replied that he must have been elected because "His grandfather killed some tans."

    He's elected on his name.

Wish Anne McEllistrim would run instead but it will prolly never happen!!

I am running a poll on Kerry News Blog to guage peoples opinions on the General election: http://kerrynews.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/which-party-will-get-your-first-preference-vote/

I will post an updated poll with all of the correct candidates for both of the Kerry constituencies once the deadline for nomination has passed.

What do people think of Brendans Griffins chances in S kerry he's 9/2 with paddy power, I've only heard him lately, he comes across intelligent and aware of the bigger issues and says he will give back 50% of his salary if elected.I reckon someone like this should get a chance to prove himself.

Who is gonna vote for M Healy Rea everyone you talk to both young and old can't stand the man, I don't see how paddy power gave him the favourite tag with all the tricks the healy rea's get up to I wouldn't put it past him put down large bets on himself in order to get the favourite tag, to get his campaign off to a good start.

Really hoped we would see a couple of new faces running in North Kerry/West Limerick, especially with the constituency being expanded now, need a few strong independents to shake things up

I have now added the candidates for each of the Kerry constituencies. Let me know if I got any wrong or left any out as I got the lists from a reliable source (paddypower.com).

    Kerry North Limerick West: http://kerrynews.wordpress.com/2011/02/01/kerry-north-limerick-west/
    Kerry South: http://kerrynews.wordpress.com/2011/02/01/kerry-south/

I noticed in the results from the general Which Party? poll that so far neither the Greens nor Fianna Fail have gotten any votes ;-) Thanks for taking the time to "vote" and dont forget to check back often to view the latest results.

Should be interesting, given that her organisation filmed its encounter with FF's only hope in North Kerry.

21 candidates to contest General Election in Kerry

The deadline for nominations to run in the General Election closed in the past hour and a total of 21 candidates are standing in both Kerry constituencies. Almost half of those running are independents. The latest candidate to throw his hat into the ring is Richard Behal from Killarney.

Mr Behal is 72 years of age and is running as an independent candidate in Kerry South. He is a former member of Sinn Fein and ran for the party in the European elections in 1984. He then left Sinn Fein and has been independent since 1986.

There is now a field of 10 candidates in Kerry South while 11 candidates are declared for Kerry North West Limerick. In a reflection of the national trend of the high number of independents running in this election, there are 9 independent candidates putting themselves before the voters in both constituencies

Tom Fleming, Michael Healy-Rae, Dermot Finn and Richard Behal are standing in Kerry South. Sam Locke, Michael Reidy, Mary Fitzgibbon, Bridget O' Brien and John McKenna have declared in Kerry North West Limerick.

21 applicants for 6 well paid + benefits jobs - not so bad when we see hundreds (many over qualified) applying for 1 or 2 lowly paid jobs in retail or catering sector.

At least one of them might be going back to teaching in the Tralee vicinity, to keep the extra long holidays that TDs have.:)

According to this website, Jackie Healy-Rae, despite all of the publicity that he gets, didn't actually do much up in Dublin.

...and Tom McEllistrim did a lot less than JHR by the look of it.
