Do you think in China you would get 10 years of protest and impass! With appeals, reviews, etc...

Their is a reason why China is the world's powerhouse economy currently and the lack of protest is one.... not saying that is correct however most foreign exploration companies will not touch Ireland currently because of the difficulties Shell had over this Gas field.

I do wonder some times, how do the Rossport protestors drive a car, take a flight or live their modern lives such is their lack of faith in modern engineering.

They also execute people in the back of vans, arrest people for retweeting and disappear anyone remotely dissident.

It's snowing! Fuck the protest, the economy and the government, I'm going out to play in the snow. YAY!!

March is off. 1cm of snow will shut the whole city down.

Can you confirm? I mean the march is 6 hours away, I'm sure a lot of the snow would have melted away by then.

Nah, I can't confirm, I was being flippant. But the forecast says there's more snow on the way, temperatures won't rise much above freezing and Irish people are lazy.

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/gardai-plan-crackdown-on-troublemakers-at-protest-2438316.html

Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy made it clear yesterday that contingency plans will be in place to deal with groups who refuse to obey the march stewards and attempt to stage their own demonstrations

this gardai indo story says you must march with the ICTU or you'll be arrested, now there plenty of people out there who don't want to march in association with the ICTU, but are very concerned about our situation, or totally opposed to government actions, but apparently the only protest allowed to day is in Dublin with the ICTU.

    Martial law much?

I'd assume he meant follow the marches route, no branching off the decided route, there's going to be lots of people there with their own banners, are they going to question everyone about the affiliations?

The gardai understandably need to know the protest route, timings etc. to ensure the safety of those marching and everyone else. It's easier if everyone sticks to one group for operational reasons. That's why big protests always involve liaising with police forces. It's nothing more sinister than that.
You're free to have a placard saying you're unaffiliated with any union.

I see your point but look the gardai have a job to do. Do you want the bedlam of London two weeks ago?
It's a compromise between the right to peaceably assemble and ensuring public safety.

Besides one big protest will look better than smaller offshoots of disorganised protestors.

People should dress up in costumes like I'm doing. I'll be nice and toasty in my gorilla costume.

what if you wanted to protest outside the the headquarters of the ictu or siptu, maybe you thought they were responsible for making deals with the gov the restrained real dissent against the ff/pd/gp gov's economic policies.

The protesters should make an army of snowmen to bulk up numbers given many won't turn up due to weather conditions...

I think most people will be too preoccupied with trying to smash a snowball into the face of the union leaders

Nearly swung the rear of my car into a lamp post 20 minutes ago trying to take a corner. Let's assume now the turnout for the march is going to be even more mediocre than first predicted.

Me too (not in the car though). Just a lot people from the country who probably won't make it up now, and potentially people from the outskirts of Dublin. And then people people who were on the fence about going will probably just stay in and watch Jeff Stelling and the boys.

Watching Sky new live, City center looks clear , anyone who can, try get in, we need people out there otherwise we are in trouble, the interest we have to pay back is rising to levels that we cannot pay back in our life times! we need people out there.

That secret EU meeting was to discuss use of their secret weather machine to quell civil unrest. If we go in, they'll set it to golf ball hailstones! My tin foil hat won't protect me.

Do you think the government will grit the roads to help the protest numbers?
