Reducing rent

    Given the crappy state of the country and the upcoming budget,im wondering how long id have to be living in my gaff so that itd ok that i ask for a reduction in rent?ive never had to ask before so i dont know anything about this. :confused: and am i even entitled to ask??!

    Of course you're entitled to ask. Bear in mind that it's likely that mortgage interest relief will be cut if not abolished in the budget in two weeks, and with the introduction of a property tax, landlords may actually be seeking to increase rents to try and recoup this.

    i'll chance asking sometime in the new year so.hopefully the box of choccies i'll give the landlord for xmas will sway it ha! thanks for replying :)

    I finally got up the nerve to ask for one from my LL a month or so and got it straight away, so definitely do ask! It's not a massive reduction, but it certainly helps me out, and as I pay rent on time, pay all my bills and keep the place in good order, I'd say they're happy to give a bit of a discount to keep me there.

    No harm in asking at all! The worst that can happen is they say no. I asked on on 2 coassions over a number of years and both times we were given a reduction. They have to realise that times have changed.
