    Hi all,

    So I've setup a minecraft server recently and most of the discussion about the server has been in Tallon's Minecraft Server thread which has got confusing so as a result I've setup this thread.

    The IP address is: 188.165.205.19 You can also connect to the server by entering majorgaming.eu into the connect field. There is a whitelist in effect due to the amount of griefers we are getting so apply for access at the forum link below.

    This address is public so I would advise people to hide their valuable items in chests in secret locations.

    I've also setup a simple script to display when the server is online and who's playing. It's very buggy at best and I'm still working on it so don't mind if it display's something funny every now and again :D

    As of today, the server has been updated to server client 0.2.5_02

    Suppose you could just recreate the group before many, many people join it if you really wanted, or split into two social groupings but that is more hassle.

    Enjoying this server a lot, and I think I'm getting more stable ping/lag then on Tallon's considering I'm on the other side of the world.

    My never ending goal of creating an interesting treehouse of some sort seems to be going reasonably well too, I'm happy with how this one is turning out (having raised my previous one to the ground after people started chopping down my precious trees!)

    It's interesting haing to worry about monsters and falling death again. I find myself arranging convenient times to suicide and regain my health having stored away any valuable items. Also, nothing quite ruins your day like a pair of creepers hiding in your trees and blowing holes in your fragile floating floor, and difficult to rebuild trees. Those bastards!

    Ive started a bit of a farm and new sapling patch behind the mine entrance, so if youre low on health harvest some wheat and make bread...

    I think what I'll do is put the server details in the first post. If there is problems with people coming and disrupting the server then I'll change it from the default port and only give the port out by PM.

    EDIT: Also, minecraft.net seems to be going offline every now and again at the moment. It seems to be preventing me from connecting to the server.

    Should be fine now, minecraft.net was down which was preventing players from logging into servers for some reason.

    I set out on my travels with high hopes of discovering awesome new places for us to mine and build...

    I traveled by day only, for fear of being killed from the shadows in the night. I built numerous emergency nighttime shelters, i left some supplies in each shelter the in the mornings... and went on my way...

    what i didn't expect to find was a longing for home and an overwhelming feeling of loneliness while on my travels.... I decided to loop around and arrive triumphantly back at the community mine with many gifts and stories from my travels...

    but alas, after many days and nights of desperately searching for a building or light in the distance my search came to an end... I realized that I would never find my way home and I resigned myself to my fate...



    I constructed a wooden house on the highest peak I could find and left my final message within, along with all my belongings.... gifts for the next lonely wanderer.... then i opened the front door to my last refuge and walked out into the night......

    Pop that in your quickslot and it always points to your spawn point.

    Replace Iron with gold and you make a pocketwatch.

    I've also go the missing blocks thing as well, mostly when I have been logging in and waiting for the server to load fully.

    ye except it happened when i was running... would have made a compass but i wasnt going to mine down to try get redstone, i'd have died anyway peobably...

    Apoligies to whoever was on the server at around 5:30am this morning, it crashed again for some weird reason. The logs tell me that it was overloaded but I think it's related to a memory leak.

    It took about 30 minutes for it to crash fully going by the log. I may put in a command to get the server to restart every day at 4am if that would be ok with everyone??

    The load on the server went up drastically during that period so I'm not entirely sure whats happening but I'm going to take a look at it. I think it may be down to the 64bit OS that the server's running and possible having a 32bit version of Java installed. I'll look into it anyway.

    Quick question. Is randomly exploring not a bad idea since it will always bring you back to your spawn point if you die, miles from the half built giant penis you were working on?

    I have no goods, so I have nothing to loose. Am glitched, can't be seen by person or zombie, and jumping off high buildings or running through lava does nought to me.

    Yep, that's the invisibility bug, I've deleted your data so you should be ok now.

    Yeah or you can type /home to do it without losing all your items. Items persist for ~5 minutes when left out in the open.


    Quick favour to ask Cian; could you spawn me ~5 mob spawners? I have made a pig farm but no pigs. Mob spawners placed by players always spawn pigs.

    Plus I need some for the archery range I intend to build. :D

    Don't appear to but that could be due to poor feedback when attacking monsters at the moment. Also arrows auto duplicate when fired or something.

    The archery box has hundreds in it.

    the arrrows dont work that well at all... and that arrow glitch is unreal... filled 2 large crates earlier... why? i dont know...

    That's a nasty glitch, try and avoid it if at all possible because it brought the server to it's knees :eek:

    In my cave (marked as "Ziggurat's Abode"). There's over 64 iron ingots, wood, coal, gold, red stone and some un-smelted gold missing.

    Curiously, dirt and the cow hides are still there...

    I'll login now and use give to give you back your missing items. I don't know who took them but if I were you, make a new chest and put it somewhere only you know about. It's too bad but I'm afraid there's not a whole pile I can do unless you know who took them.

    The IP's public at the moment, what I'll have to do is appoint more ops or admins to keep a close eye on things, I'll also update the announcements.

    Sorry Cian, I also shoot about 60 arrows when under a zombie siege. Never thought it would cause server problems. Anyway will leave them locked away for now.

    I've also got a chest secreted, with just a few diamonds and a jukebox for now. Took me ages to find them. Love where the chest is, people have been walking past it for ages.

    Till we get some more ops maybe people should hang on to essential/hard to get stuff or place in a secreted chest?

    Sorry Cian, I also shoot about 60 arrows when under a zombie siege. Never thought it would cause server problems. Anyway will leave them locked away for now.

    I've also got a chest secreted, with just a few diamonds and a jukebox for now. Took me ages to find them. Love where the chest is, people have been walking past it for ages.

    Till we get some more ops maybe people should hang on to essential/hard to get stuff or place in a secreted chest?

    I'll look into that but I'm trying to not use plugins if at all possible because of the rate updates are coming out now. I'd rather wait until a fairly stable version is released like 1.2.4 or even better beta.

    EDIT: Sorry about having to restart the server there, it's just eating up memory like crazy, came close to using 3GB there. I've given it more memory to try and lengthen the time between needing to restart.

    I've been working on getting the Hey0 mod on to the server. If it works with the new update then I'll enable it along with ChestProtector. It works perfect at the moment but I'll wait and see how it works with the new update.

    Roughly have to restart the server twice a day. I'm lucky because I have a lot of extra memory available to allocate to it which lengthens the time between restarts.

    That's quite diligent of you, fair play. Next update is supposed to clean up the bow-arrow thing and give a fair few bug fixes. Hope it fixes the paintings problem, I just finished my enclosure at the top of a mountain (after increasing said mountains size) and found that the gallery I was building wasn't possible. :_(

    Still got all the rooms done just trying to fill it with stuff (and secret passages, wool lets people walk soundlessly :D).

    What does the Hey0 mod do. I can guess chestprotector.

    Yep, at least the infinite arrows will be fixed. No sign of anything for the memory leak problem. It's moved up on the list of bugs on the tracker but Notch hasn't posted anything on it yet so I doubt we'll have a fix for that soon :(

    Hey0 mod basically allows other players access to commands like list online players, change home location, message other players etc. It also allows for plugins like chestprotector to be installed. It's a really good plugin so hopefully it'll work with the next update, once I'm sure it does, I'll enable it on the server.

    Only a newbie at Minecraft, just started a few days ago. Joined the server, some seriously impressive stuff built there.

    I assume it's ok to take the stone, dirt, etc that is stored in the Community Mine/Storage area? Just to get a house up and running so I have a safehouse during night time.

    Sorry in advance if I step on anyone's toes ingame, just give me a bell if I'm doing something stupid/rude!

    All the stuff in community mine is up for grabs, most people have their own storage hidden away as well. Cobblestone tends to be picked up in the hundreds in any serious mine so throw all that into the chests there.

    There should be some tools lying around as well. The tree farm produces wood when you replant saplings (from breaking leaves). Wood tends to be in shorter supply because of this.

    Most people have marked their areas and it should be fairly obvious where people are building. Since I have built a scenic forest up to my building I have marked it with redstone lights to ward away trigger happy lumberjacks.

    Anyway game is good fun, unfinished and addictive. Enjoy. :)

    New update isn't out yet, I'm secretly hoping it's on account of Notch fixing more bugs. According to the bug tracker, he's started working on getting the memory leak sorted, hopefully when the update comes out, it'll have a fix for this :D
