Turning slushy now, but some of the slush has refrozen and is deadly on non-gritted roads. Passed out a merc on the slope up to my housing estate today(outside the Presentation) Reving and going nowhere but backwards, as my dinky car passed him out:D! Bad as well on the Kells Road out towards the ring road(outside Village Vet)

I was coming out onto the Comer road there and I was going slow (10kph), braked to slow down, ineffective, pushed harder, the car kept skidding, out onto the Comer road just passed the edge of the cycle lane, thank God I didn't hit the uncoming car.

    yep until it melts !!

I should probably rephrase that as: When's the snow forecast to not fall anymore?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭fabbydabby

Staying very cold for the next few days but generally not snowing, any precipitation which does occur will be falling as sleet (day) and snow (night).

Or 'seelt and sonw' if you prefer.

Captain Havoc, the trick to stopping on ice is to tap your brakes repeatedly, not stomp hard on them :D
I'm loving the snow, but have a feeling my pipes will freeze if it stays this cold all week...not looking forward to that.

Chadwick's jacked up the price of their water softener salt 25 kilo bags by 80% since this day last week, but I am sure that's just a coincidence.

This is not correct. If you have abs, which most modern cars do, keep your foot planted to the floor until you stop if you are skidding. You will feel the pedal pulse as the abs does its thing.

However when driving on ice you should not use the brakes if possible, use the gears to slow down and drive in a higher gear than normal for the speed you are doing.

I see the snow got fairly bad or good, depending on your view, over night. I'm off work for the next few days (was off anyway :() If anyone knows any people in and around the city that you can't get to and need something over the next few days, you can PM or skype me and I'll head out on the bike (link under my name), also think I'm working in Carlow on Saturday so if you need something brought up or down you can let know.

    Supply and demand
Co-op in Callan is still selling the one I buy for about 8e odd a bag which is good :)
Course I use it for my water softner not for my drive way...

even allowing for extra costs in emergency delivery situations -a hike like this is extortion and nothing short of.
To generalize it as "supply and demand" and let it go at that is facilitating the type of greed that got us into the financial malaise we are currently in.
I would suggest burying them in a sea of bad publicity and complaints thru the various consumers associations.

Yeah so would I but that's a whole lot of effort. But knock yourself out. Can't remember the last time I bought in there.

Thaw is at least underway. Just a word of caution on the motorway especially between Castldermot and Kilcullen, still bits of ice that you need to be wary of especially in the dark on the overtaking lane. They cleared most of it earlier but it was lethal up until then.

Still lots of slush/snow on the road in my estate. Pity it couldn't have got a run with the plough.
