The problem is that we can only put one prop on the bench. If Court comes on at tighthead we are in dire straits, if he comes on at loose then we do well enough. If Buckley is on the bench he can do a job at tighthead, adds looseplay but we'll be in a bad position if he has to cover loosehead. Seeing as its a tradeoff between the two and Ross is the most likely prop to be replaced I would pick Buckley on the bench.

Is there only a 22 man squad in the W/C?

As far as I know yes, I think at international level it is being left that way for this RWC cycle and will be changed after.

A team can have 7 props on the bench if they want. France often have a new front row.

6 really, you can't start a match without a recognised hooker on the bench. ;) I understand your point but Ireland have never used this, teams who really use the scrum as a weapon do it but its not that common outside of France/Italy/Argentina/Top14

Pretty much what is available BUT Big Tony is not, never was and never will be a loosehead prop. He is a tight head. his few forays at loosehead in top level games have been disastrous. Ireland have plenty of looseheads who are infinitely better. In fact any pro loosehead at any of the 4 Provinces are better. To complicate matters, Court is now a loosehead having been a decent tighthead until the arrival of Botha. The fact that he doesn't play there other than the few minutes that Deccie deigns to allow was starkly exposed by Corbisiero. If Court is to continue as a tighthead he needs to play there and with Ulster signing Afoa - who can play 1,2 and 3 he may get more opportunities but not until after the RWC. If Botha doesn't recover in time, Court will be playing tight head in the Heineken Cup.

Sorry, was an oversight, swap Buckley and Court on my list. Buckley, I imagine, will cover tight while Court covers both loose and tight and therefore get the nod on the bench.
The squad remains the same though
