I always see these crazy videos of people in the UK trying to drive in the snow or ice... don't you guys put snow tires on?

9 inches of snow won't even close schools around here.

At the same time, we're outfit for snow in New England... salter/sanders and plows... most people run all-seasons or snow tires at this point

Snow tyres?! Jayses . . . doesn't snow here often enough to warrant most people investing in a set I would imagine.

EDIT: Sleety rain here in Ballsbridge now.

But yes, of course, our puny snow IS puny, but things kind of fall apart here with even a centimetre of snow.

We're just not accustomed to snow, it's such a rare event. Snow tyres would be an expense that most households just cannot accomodate for a one/twice a year event. In fairness our government has fooked up this country enough - without spending what little we have left on grit, whilst the elderly are left in hospital corridors on a trolley. Although judging by the past 3 winters we may have to start thinking about seriously changing the way we do things!

The met's warnings are about tonight, and the front that's forecast to pass down over us. What we have now is unrelated.

They really said little about this afternoon asides from scattered showers. In fact, I'm sort of surprised we have had the amount of cloud and precipitation that we have had this afternoon...although the fluctuating nature of the precipitation is a little unwelcome

Im guessing that's what is coming our way. The sleet is now persistent here in Ballsbrdige and seems to turning to snow.
