Are met eireann making a hash of this again? There is less snow on the ground here in north Dublin than there was this morning. Some of it has thawed and yet 20cm meant to be on the way. I remember they talked upbig snow event last winter that never happened.

Depends where in north Dublin you are. I'm in north west Dublin and have a lot more snow than this morning. We've had a good few snow showers since lunch time today.

Anyone any idea when a thaw will start?

I know it may be a tad early asking but we cant get the car out of the drive, never mind down the country lane we live!

Nice heavy thick snow falling now in Kiltipper Tallaght, right at the foot of the Dublin mountains, its completely white outside and road is impassable.

No more British Isles crap etc.

    Instant bans otherwise.

This is a weather forum, there are no political boundaries.

Hear, hear! "British Isles" is a geographical demarcation, not a political one, so totally appropriate in a weather forum discussing the geographical location of weather formations.

    MattB.

PS. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Anybody got an update on Dublin Airport? AA Roadwatch say that there are cancellations and refer you to the DAA website. On doing that, they say on this website "operational". Would appreciate some local knowledge as I am flying out tomorrow at around 11 to the UK.:)

Last Taf issued at 17:00 says..

    EIDW 291700Z 2918/3018 30004KT 9999 FEW008 SCT018
    PROB30
    TEMPO 2918/2923 3000 -SHSN SCT008 BKN016CB
    TEMPO 2923/3018 1500 SHSN BKN005 BKN018CB
    BECMG 3004/3006 06015KT
    TEMPO 3010/3018 06018G30KT

Which means moderate snow showers from 11PM tonight until 6PM tomorrow.

It might just about be far enough inland for that, but its totally marginal, coastal areas are either going to get nothing or a whole lot of heavy wet snow. Inland and on high ground..with get totally dumped on. I wish I was back in Annamoe!
In Dublin my money is on Blanch, Tallafornia etc as being the most likely candidates for decent snow.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

You can always follow their twitter stream - they update it at least every few days when things look dodgy. For all of us who are gagging to hear about how much Etihad lovvvves T2, all the details are there. For mundane details like snow and ice stopping/delaying/impacting flights, you'd be better off counting the airplanes in the sky. Sad notion of customer service.

As far as i no they are running ''ok'' deicing and doing a friction test every few hours
