"A ban on the marketing, sale and distribution of bituminous coal applies in sixteen towns and cities around the country (Dublin from 1990, Cork 1995, Arklow, Drogheda, Dundalk, Limerick and Wexford 1998, Celbridge, Galway, Leixlip, Naas and Waterford 2000, Bray, Kilkenny, Sligo and Tralee 2003)."

So I suppose anywhere outside those areas. Why dio you want it tho? Turf and logs burn much better and are better for the environment.

i dont think the smokeless coal burns as well.

personally i feel that there is a lot more heat from the natural smokey coal.

anyone in the celbridge /lexlip area know where is the closest coal merchant that does regular coal

Maynooth is in the Leixlip ward so you won't get any there.

there's a coal supplier outside Kilcock (Trim Road side).

i get coal there, i never gave much thought as to if it's smokeless or not,
but if it's outside the 'forbidden zone', they are worth checking out.

    €15 - 40Kg bag of coal or €7.50 -20kg bag

I got coal in Barrett's in Maynooth recently. I think it's smokey - no mention of being smokeless on the bags, and it's much more irregularly shaped than smokeless coal I've bought in the past.
