Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can anyone inform me about the most economically viable way to get and maintain a car in Ireland is. I checked this website

for cheap cars but theres cars listed in there for under $100. How can someone sell a car for that cheap? Are cars listed for prices like this in such bad condition that they're a liability or something?

I moved your thread to the main motors forum as you'll get a better response here.

Running a car is expensive, no matter what it is. You should be looking for is a car that's taxed and tested for around 1000. Fiesta 1.25, clio 1.2 etc would be good choices.

Perhaps you can look though the Bangernomics thread?
Or just post up candidates here and get feedback from the other posters*

Ah right those cars are for rent, not sale. There are still some dirt cheap cars in there though like this one

If you look more carefully, first prices are listed as "per week"
Just opened first link and it said

    * LEASE/HIRE/RENT * THIS CAR @ ONLY .* €65 PW *

Dirt cheap for a reason. That car looks like it was crashed. The mileage on the odometer is 73k miles and not 17k miles. The picture of the odometer was taken 7 months ago - who knows what the mileage is now?

The car needs an alternator, so it doesn't actually drive. The car has not passed the NCT test.

Really, dude, take Alanstrainors advice if you don't really know what you're at. Get a clean little car with a long test (I'd aim for a car that was just tested) and bring a friendly mechanic with you to check the car out. Expect to pay the guts of a grand for a good one...

I tend to think that with things like cars either you shell out a lot of money to buy something new or newish and it costs you in depreciation and finance. By finance I mean either what the money costs you to borrow if you don't have it or what it costs you in lost interest if you do have it. However, with the new or newish car you should not have to fork out much in the way of unscheduled visits to the garage.
With the older cars depreciation is a bit pot luck, it could go for five years or it could die on the way home but you will probably be paying out bits and pieces on a fairly steady basis unless of course you can do all or most of the work yourself.

lol thanks. I'd better start learning about cars before I go and buy one. My friends family run a garage so I'll get him to come along and make sure I don't do anything stupid. A grand isn't too bad at all if the car lasts.

    Something like this...

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1745721

Black bonnet looks horrible and points to little boy racer but Civics are reliable, got a bit of tax and full test

Not responsible if it gives up driving out the gate:p

Put your upper limit into the parameters of donedeal.#

    (wouldn't touch a Fiat)
