A slight thaw since 3AM here in Goatstown. Clear skies overhead but some clouds over towards the pigeon house

  • Registered Users Posts: 225 ✭✭ManAboutCouch

could you give me a crash course in what this really means ;)

I'm not an expert, but I think it means that the air which is passing over the M2 Buoy (about 40km out in the Irish Sea, off Howth Head) en route to Dublin is very cold indeed. When it hits it'll almost certainly mean decent snow because there is plenty of wet cloud coming along with that air.

Yes there has only been a small window of clearance for the development over the Irish sea, watch the showers become bigger and intense as the evening and night progresses.

what will make them more intense later? they are very itty bitty fecky mini showers now even on the stream in, on the radar....nothing beefy! how do you mean "small window of clearance"?

i think people a clutching at straws here for another good fall of snow in my honest opinion and i hope i am very wrong but it wont happen

Your perspective is understandable - snow doesn't penetrate cardboard boxes very well :D

Personally, I'm inclined to believe the actual data that many people are providing as opposed to anecdotal speculative remaks about there 'definitely being a thaw on'.

Blue skies and big thaw on in Rialto. :-(

Got a fair dumping of snow last night in Navan. Thawing slightly but not enough for it to be gone.

Yep, Rialto is warming up a bit at the moment alright. Looks like it'll get pretty cold in about an hour though.

Wind picking up in Waterford. Trying it's best to snow but clouds not big enough to last - only showers at the moment

If you are in a thawing area that is NOT a good thought.

    Besides... thaw = water

water + oncoming Siberian air = ice

ice + slow = sticking snow

Unless the snow melts and the grounds are dry the cold air will do the rest.

Hopefully. Have to go get some shopping so must do that while it's clear. Keeping everything crossed!!
