I went out for 9.5 miles on Sunday. Was very hard work but very enjoyable as there was no one around. My route took me around some back roads were there was still some grip.

My issue now is that everything around my house has frozen to glass. Walking is a hazard and the car looks like it will be in place for the rest of the week.
I could get to a field, but have not ran there before.

So last night I stuck the bike onto the turbo trainer and attempted to do an interval session that way. Was OK, but as I very rarely cycle now I found it much more difficult than running...

Hope to make it up to the club track on Thursday, if public transport allows me to get out of town on time, but its not looking good. So alternative arrangements might be required again...

Louisa Bridge -Confey Bridge, along canal has a good flat running surface.
    it's been resurfaced recently.
i ran it last night, in dark, and it was fine.

if you can run in daylight, it's quite a pleasant run to Clonsilla station, (5miles).

You will need trail shoes though, or home-made ones, a la Robinph.

Its killing me not to run. I haven't been 100% since before Dublin Marathon so I'm enforcing a 2 week rest. Would love to be out snow trail running or even, god damn it, using the treadie if I had to. My exercise in recent days has been limited to clearing snow and trudging through snow and back to the shops for provisions. How quick do you lose conditioning :(

I'd love to be running at the moment, but have poxy tendonitis in my left knee, went for a walk tonight in the phoneix park,it was cracking. for those who hate running in the snow head to the phoneix park its glorious up there. The snow will help strenghten those puny legs :)

Cant get out at the moment, paths like ice here (Drogheda). Walked for a bit today and nearly fell numerous times. Gym last night (cross trainer) but couldn't even get there today. Very annoying.

Its very easy to make excuses. Its just as easy to modify an old pair of runners to allow to run in the snow and ice.

Anyone not running in this is missing out on a great experience. Slow down your pace, plan ahead your footing and you'll be fine. Its safer then walking and driving. The horror stories are from those who did'nt use common sense and tried to run at their normal pace, heal strike and your on your ear. ATM much of the snow is soft, harder to run in, but safe.

Have decided to run in and back to work. Knocklyon to Ballsbridge - approx 6.5 miles. All fine once there is fresh snow around. Beats sitting in a car for 2+ hours.

Eh not entirely true, I am from the same area and you do not know when the footpath starts, the curb ends and the road starts. I never make excuses but running in a few inches of snow without knowing what is underfooth would be pretty foolish... and thats included parkland/pitches.
NorthEast got hammered today with the conditions.

I'm not running in this. I'm not that bothered by the treadmill, which is strange for me. If I do get fed up, I'll head down to phoenix.

Yesterday, I ran a 5km on tm as fast as I could and really enjoyed it. Good session.

Have to disagree slightly lads. It's too dangerous around where I am. Fell twice walking to shop this evening. I hit the treadmill instead. I decking hate the treadmill ran 8 miles the last 4 were very very fast. Couldn't wait to get off it. I'd run n the roads if I were guaranteed no injuries but I'm not risking the best years training of my life for one week of snow running. Play the odds boys and girls

The beach is still okay to run on...in that its no more difficult than usual. Have only done it once so far though, reckoned the 2 hour walk in snow would do for exercise today!!

I hadn't been out yet this week. I was all set to go out yesterday until I saw a runner fall flat on his face when he missed a curb. I ended up buying a 10 visit pass to the local gym.

Personally, I think they are a serious waste of cash for me given that I live beside the sea (so pool sorted) the school I work in has a serious weights room and I love road running. It broke my heart handing over the cash but Evelyn Cusack says the bad weather might last till the end of next week and we all know the weather forecast is never wrong!!

That's the problem with the treadie, was supposed to be doing an easy 12k run on it last night at 12.1km/h, but ended up doing the last 1.5k @ 16 just to get finished.

Tell me about it. Have to head down to gym this morning to run on the poxy machine again.

I must be getting old, the music in the gym yesterday was absolutely shocking. I'm bringing my headphones and ipod today.

The treadmills in my gym have televisions mounted on them. Yesterday I watched an episode of deal or no deal without sound. T'was very enjoyable.

Having trouble with my knee so took the week before the snow off to rest it up. Then the snow came and I'm too afraid to risk running with a dodgy knee . I'll have to wait for this to clear!

Fell 3/4 times yesterday when out walking. NO way I would chance running, tore ligaments in my foot earlier in year and was off it for almost 6 weeks, no way I am chancing that.
But can barely get to gym with way roads are here..so thats not good. Rather be in Limerick...with no snow!!:P

What is it with gyms and crap music? Our gym sometimes has fm104 or one of those crap stations on. You know when everyone calls in to guess what a particular sound is? "is it a crisp bag?"...."no, we've had that already". Rubbish! Why?

How are people falling while walking? Stay on our forefoot and keep your stride short...

Ironically I've run 60km on the ice this week without any issue but slipped and fell walking around the corner from work to get a coffee.

all joking aside it actually did.

Major fail in the gym today. Firstly forgot my headphones, thankfully the music was better today. Yesterdays music was real hard core rave stuff. I like dance music but my ears were bleeding yesterday.

Secondly, forgot a water bottle. The amount of fluid lost running indoor is just not funny. Was doing a tempo session and had to pause half way to get a drink from water fountain, wouldn't have lasted the session. Walked to and from gym, snow very very deep. As a little experiment I tried running in it but failed. Snow is bucketing down now again. I can honestly say the last time I remember snow like this I was 4 1982 snow

Ran in it last night no issues. Slower alright, all out pace is tough! I have now adapted an old set of runners as per some of the pictures from guys here. Giving them a go inside the next hour.

    Neither of those two evenings.

I ran to UL and down by Kilmurry Lodge and back up to Cois Ghruda on the Monday evening. Tuesday took day off.

I have ran Childers either direction on a number of occasions. Last time was Sunday afternoon.

I would be quite tall and slim.

I think you're less likely to fall while running beause you're generally going to be more upright, core engaged, shorter steps and a lot of people would have a forefoot strike.

Not too sure if I'll get out this evening - I think I'm snowed in. Heavy snow all afternoon in Dublin South. Its now worse than '82. I know most of the rest of the country are saying 'what the hell are the Dubs whinging about' but seriously folks - Its bad.

Not that I do a huge amount of running but I was doing 3-4 evenings per week 5-10k per evening. Havent been out in the past 7 days. Its annoying, I suppose I could go head for some grassy area somewhere but I am more worried about injury.
Not as bad in Galway as other places but paths are pretty slippy.

7.5 miles done home from work. That was a s**t load of fun. The scrunch, the fact that you know everyone is stuck in a DART stn, the snow in your eyes, sticking your tongue out to grab some sneachta. If you can find a quiet road - get out and give it a shot. And if you fall then fall, soft landing
