All dew points around Dublin (howth, artane, bray, sandyford) are well below 0c & the M2 is - 1.7c

The met is saying its 0 outside so all looking good for this patch to be snow

What are the chances of us driving from Dublin to Ballina on Friday for a wedding on Saturday?? Worried about this atlantic warm front turning to snow from midlands to east. Wonder what the timeline is for this? Have read MTCranium's update and it doesn't bode well, from Dublin to midlands at least.:(

Cloud accumulation below Isle of Man increasing, generally build up before it hits us. Not much accumulation out there over the last two hous till now.

OK - I've not been drinking I swear - Just went for a lampost check and what can only be described as a Ninja on a bicycle went speeding down the road at approx 30mph which is pretty damn fast on a normal dry road. He was swathed from head to toe in black with just his eyes showing. There are some mad fcukers out there. :eek:

Then, I looked at the sat24.com site and there is indeed could building up. Hopefully stuff that I don't understand fully yet will make the cloud turn into snowy drops when it reaches here

west wicklow - does anybody know if it is supposed to get much worse on friday ? Snow is great but have about 2.5 - 3 foot now not counting drifts. If the snow is going to continue at this rate i need to hike to the shops tomorrow to stock up on food. up to knee this evening and snowed solid since. Starting to get cabin fever

What that means for the weather in Ireland is likely near-freezing temperatures continuing with outbreaks of light snow in the east.

Eventually higher pressure is likely to build across Ireland later in the week and may remain anchored nearby for several days. The upper portions of the atmosphere may warm with that, but the surface could remain bitterly cold due to the inversion created and the likely remnant snow cover. In other words, it may not be warming up very substantially, if at all, for a week or two and possibly more.

My research suggests that if the cold persists to about the 18th-19th before the full moon, then a winter storm will likely develop at that time (20th-21st), whereas if it does manage to get mild then this would become a rainfall event followed by colder weather. Thinking now that the odds would favour this being a winter storm event ... and possibly we are on our way to the coldest December in many years.
