A CD32 is one thing I'd never buy untested - they're well known for having leaky caps like the A1200. I'd say it's more than likely deceased.

If they leak they can be replaced. Cd drive is the same as the sega cd so readily available. I'd risk it for £17.

One bid already with over 6 days to go - it won't end that cheap ;)

Can't leaky caps destroy traces? Every time I think 'leaky caps' I just think back to those photos of my Gamegear's sound board. Looked like it had rabies! Was so bad it literally crumbled in Enternow's hands apparently.

It can if it's really bad but most likely it won't. It's risky but might be worth the risk. Sometimes you can get away with washing the acid off the board if it has leaked badly.

Traces etc can be destroyed, the the trail of acidic corrosion can follow on up the ladder to the legs of IC's etc. It's a nasty nasty affliction.

As for the lens, are Sega CD lenses readily available? Any links, wouldn't mind having a few in reserve

Some models of the drive are but apparently the very first drives to go in to the Model 2 systems are very hard to track down, as are the drives for the Model 1 afaik.

    Ebay & donberg.ie have them.

Looking to clear out the last of the Saturn games I have up for sale on eBay.
So, if anyone wants them I'll do 50 percent off the asking price for A&R members (just use "buy it now" and don't pay right away, send on your boards username and I'll invoice you).
I'll do the same on the sealed Lynx games as well. The prices are already pretty low so I think its a steal :)
I cant do much on the postage but if someone wants to collect them that's fine with me.

Flash sales will play a big part in what I have planned for the future.
    Why be boring :)
I've a bunch (30-40) of non rare NES games (mostly duplicates like Super Mario Bros and Mario Bos/Duck Hunt) I have to stick up and I kind of want them gone quick as well so might do something silly on the prices.

Just need to get around to cleaning them up and making sure every one of them works, its kind of boring after the first 10 :0/

Oh very interested in this, my NES pool is rather shallow at the moment.

Mine too, embarrassingly shallow tbh...but I'm moving from PAL to greener pastures to there's really no point in building a PAL collection...especially important with NES because the compatibility when moving to 60Hz with 50Hz games isn't great

Don't get too excited, its only about 5 different game with 20 of some, 5 of the other, 10 of another and that sort of thing.

Having a bit of a retro clean out this weekend so sticking a few bits up on adverts tonight that I don't want to put on eBay. These bits need to be gone by Sunday evening as I'll be away after that for a few days.

First up,The Legend of Zelda (NES/US/NTSC) (Custom Game Case) @ 20 Euro.

Depends on what I find as I go this evening.
So far I have a silver Gamecube that needs to go (no cables or anything but works fine as I tested it with my own stuff), a green Game Boy color that's had a new screen lens installed, one of those nasty Blaze/Atgames megadrive handhelds, a boxed clear purple Game Boy Color in almost mint condition, a new and boxed Dreamcast mouse (never used), a minty fresh boxed Perfect Dark in special protective case (not cheap rubbish collectors cases you do normally see).
Thats it so far but I'm still sorting some bits out.

Wowza, I've never seen a Wily Wars on adverts before. Thats amazing.

Edit - by the way, that was a conservative estimate from you. It's worth more like 200!

I really dont think you can bring morals into it seeing as he was offering a tenner for a 200+ euro game :D

I saw something similar on Adverts the year before last, the seller had Twilight Princess on the Gamecube going for 15e, complete. Obviously had no idea of the price, and the offers rolled in. He accepted firsties, and those who lost out went on a bit of a tangent about. its real worth. Fair play to seller, he honoured the listed price, even after being informed. Bit of balance for the experience, I suppose.

What is doing my nut in, however, is drive-by bidders, who quite persistently hound an ad with a slew of questions, conditions and offers, and soon as all's agreed, they seemingly vanish from Adverts. I've had it happen a few times. It must be some advanced form of trolling I've not caught up with.

Maybe so, but to the seller the game was only worth 15, he offered the sellers asking. It was a bit of a lowballer with a bid of a tenner though:D
It's now withdrawn, awaiting the INCREDIBLY RARE ad description no doubt.

To be perfectly honest, if I'd seen that ad myself I'd have made the seller an off thread offer. (Of probably about 50 euro)

Goes against adverts rules, but I couldn't give a damn about the rules over there anymore. The place is a joke.

Yeah I know, but is a bit much to expect a seller to sell something for a tenner once he knows it's worth 20 times that. You'd have to have one strong moral code to do that!

That's a great price. I think I will offer him 20 and tell him I would go 30 if he can find the manual. I don't think it will make near 200 on Adverts, the Ebay resellers wouldn't even touch it at that money.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

I was definitely chancing my arm lads, & Im not p1ssed off over not actually getting the game. I'd have paid more for it & have no problem with the seller in any way.

What does p1ss me off though, is the casual rule breaking that goes on, the del-boy mentality, & the disregard for the spirit of the site itself. Thats my problem here, not the fact I didn't get the game.

So thats why the minute I heard about off thread-dealing, & I posted up that the game was worth a lot more to make sure whatever twat thought he was pulling a fast one, didnt get a deal.

I suppose being an old school adverts user, I tend to automatically respect the nature of the site & rules. I still havn't adapted to using it in the wild west way most of the other chancers do, & tbh, I couldn't be arsed.

Its the lack of enforcement of its own rules, the lack of culpability of people who abuse the rules, & the casual breaking of the rules that p1sses me off about it. It's too big a site now to operate like it used to, an auction format with times listings should be an option for sellers

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

back in the old days the seller would have gotten a months ban, the rules have gotten for too relaxed, all in the name of Daft's profits.

I could see them implementing something along those lines, the only problem is there are that many clowns using it would they even stand over their bids. I don't know exactly how many people I have agreed sales with only for them to pull out. I'm still waiting for a buyer to pick up a copy of RE for the Cube he agreed to buy over a week ago. He offered 15 then text me last Saturday asking me would I take 10, I told him no and agreed to wait till today for collection. Suprise suprise no contact made, if I leave neg feedback they will probably do the same.
The site is severly broken in matters like these because the buyer will just do the same thing again to somebody else. The only way would be an immediate payment option like Ebay to stop this carry on or a way of blocking people with a low feedback of too many negs. I know it's not fair blocking somebody with low feedback and no negs because we all have to start somewhere.

They do have an option for immediate payment via PayPal as far as I know. It might just be for shops though.

It would just cut down on the messers if the option was there. It's not like on here if a deal is done the person will stand over it.

Back a couple of years ago adverts was only used by people trying to get rid of their old tat which for most people included games. really people only wanted stuff gone so getting a fiver and half a packet of crisps for soem old games was really just a bonus.

then someone got the message that old games were not only very cool (we all knew that already) but also very rare and therefore valuable. I don't really need to tell you the rest, prices went up and the competition for bargains escalated dramatically as some people seemed to believe that a copy of Double Dash or Ocarina would somehow make them rich.

The collectors ie us were the ones who got squeezed out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭CosmicSmash

I think for a lot of collectors the thing that matters the most is the condition, I will admit I'm fairly fussy about condition, manuals spine cards etc. Some people just collect carts, their not too pushed about boxes etc. But what really gets me are sellers that think they have a "retro" console so it must be worth a fortune irrespective of this, this popped up on adverts and I don't think it's worth a fiver let alone the asking price. I never mind paying a fair price for a game or console I want in the condition I want but some sellers seem to price themselves out of the market.
