    Sandyford update:

We got dusted last night but that dusting is still there! Max today was -1C and it is currently -6C.

Another mainly sunny day; though not the clear cloudless skies of yesterday.

Addendum: When I was growing up the old folk used to talk about 1947. The cold spell started at the end of January and ended on St Patrick's Day. Six weeks and a bit. A phrase I often heard of that period was "it never rained but it snowed" - meaning that any precipitation in that six weeks was of snow.

I can now say that while we got only the lightest dusting last night, here in Sandyford since the 26th November (over three weeks) it has "never rained but it snowed"!

Addendum II: Imagine - if this spell lasted to St Patrick's Day we'd have over sixteen weeks when t'would have never rained but snowed. One can dream......

Theres actually a seperate record kept for lowest temeprture in NI
Its 17.5 °C 1 January 1979 in Magherally (County Down)

I wonder if Castlederg beats the Sligo record will Met Eireann ignore it because its in the North? Probably.
Lets hope Killygordan beats it too then. :)

Also is there any theremometer instrument in Markree Castle, Co. Sligo? it would be interesting to have one there seeing as it holds the record for the coldest temperture.

So, the NI record folk are ignoring the Republic then with their separate record?

when you click on the -16 It actually says -15.6 , so is this techincally -16 ?
I was wondered that, if the temperture is -0.1, this is -1 right?

no, that would technically be 0, would have to be -0.5 or more (lower) to be -1 (i think!)

    15.6 is 15.6 technically it's nothing else :D
Report just rounds it up or down for less digits on chart viewer.
Anything from .4 to .1 is rounded down.
