    Starting to snow lightly d17:)

It is a bit milder today in Galway city and the roads are clear [apart from inside housing estates]. The coast road is clear all the way from the city to the crossroads at Ballynahown [after the TG4 building]. I passed a gritter and a snowplough so the council are on the job.
Bit overcast now but doesn't look like it will snow anytime soon.

I also feel like a fool have stocked up and was warning people about being snowed in by blizzards and massive snowfall.

    Met Eireann were bang on.

It feels less cold in Athlone this morning than previous days, and the snow is still fluffy and soft so not frozen.

I'd say they were bang on for half the island, wrong for the rest, until the night before IIRC. I'd call this battle between ME and MT a draw!

Just been to the shop across the road and its absolutely freezing out there, honestly never felt this sort of cold before. Its a two minute walk yet my hands were numb and turning blue when I got back to the house

Am I right in saying though, for the temperature record to be broken it has to be at a Met Eireann station? So even if Kilygordan does break it it wont officially count, considering both ME stations in Donegal are coastal theres not much hope of them doing it

It should count, Met eireann work with the NRA.
    From the Site
"the meteorological information from the weather stations and road sensors is relayed to Met Eireann. The data is then used to give forecasts on ice locations on the network. "
