Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Weird V-brake problem

Riding home last night, my back brake stopped working. I stopped and looked at it, and everything is fine, plenty of pad, properly aligned, just it doesn't stop the wheel from turning - it was fine in the morning. The rim looked a bit dirty so I cleaned it and the pads this morning, but it still doesn't work (front is fine).
Any ideas, folks? It was scary relying on the front brake only down Kilmacud road last night...

    Try sanding the brake blocks.

Rear v-brakes can easily get gunked up with ice in this weather. Give the rim and brake pad a good clean (use isopropyl on the rims if you have it). Also check your cables aren't frozen.

Thanks, just going down now to try this with the wee piece of sandpaper you get in puncture repair kits!

Have you tried cleaning them with WD40?

*please don't clean them with WD40. That would be bad.
