Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know what would be the best way to get down to the e picinic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭danniemcq

Depends on what you are taking with you. if you travelling light get bus down and then taxi over. very very handy and quick.

done that last year and will probably do the same this year

    Where are you travelling from?

Loads of buses run from Dublin on the morning of the Picnic and bring you straight to the site.

I hope not! Each are popular for one song each!

someone like Jay Z would be a great addition to the list.
I thought he'd stick around last year after glastonbury
    maybe this year?

I'm still holding out for Anna Calvi, Portishead, Fleet Foxes, And So I Watch You From Afar and Elbow. They all fit as the type of act that would play EP.
I was hoping Low would be on the list but checking their tour schedule that seems unlikely.

Nadine Coyle is another artist being tipped for the trip to Laois.
Have to say i'm not familiar with her material.

Your last ban will be infinitely shorter than the one that's coming to you if you make another post similar to your last 3.

Also i'd ask other posters to not entertain these type of posts by replying to them.

Hopefully they headline the Electric Arena to give the same vibe as the 2005 atmosphere! If not they probably will go on before Chemical Brothers as they usually have a dance act headline the main stage on a Saturday

i'll be back off to the campsite to read my book when the chemical brothers arrive
someone should tell them its not 1996 anymore

I was at that gig. I'd only heard a few songs off of Funeral the week before in my mate's house and thought they sounded interesting so we all headed along. Best gig I was ever at. The whole campsite was spontaneously singing the chorus of from 'Wake Up' for the rest of the week-end. The really cool thing was that in subsequent years people still did it even though they haven't played there since-a bit like the crowd chanting "Keano Keano" at Old Trafford years after Roy Keane retired.

I'd like to see these added to the line-up.

    The Dears
    Darker My Love
    Ham Sandwich
    Beck (Yeah right!)

I wonder if there's another announcement at the end of this month?

I'd love to see Primus at EP but they'll have been and gone by then. Also, Austra would be a good addition but she's already playing Crawdaddy in July.

I know it won't happen but Two Door Cinema Club would be unreal.

Seen them about 3 years ago at EP. Best gig of the night (despite that poor fella passing away during the set,RIP). Still as relevant as ever. I've seen them about 10 times and despite not being a huge fan of live electronic music I was blown away by that gig.

Can't wait to see them at Glasto.

Might only get to one year of EP, if I'm lucky this year.

I wouldnt say that. Still put on a good show and had i that thinking i would not have bothered with leftfield last year and that was amazing.

Anyway, tv on the radio, portishead, wilco. Thatd be some nice additions.

What ever you're into but I don't think they're necessary for the Chemical Brothers.

    Is that ironing??????

    Awful line up IMO.

With the exception of Death in Vegus, Killing Joke, Chemical Brothers & Mogwai.

Everyone else is either plain bad, boring or just trendy b****x

Yeah, they hand them out at the entrance to the arena. Serious dishko biscuits!

Should we be expecting another EP announcement soon after Oxegen announces more bands tomorrow?

I hope there's another announcement coming...

Would love to see Damien Dempsey there...but I reckon he'd only be there with Sharon Shannon.... Would love The Strokes or RoySeven as well....

Anyone know if we can expect another announcement soon?

Have to agree. I've never made it to Stradbally and this year, the one time I could actually afford it, the lineup is way under par. Had a look back at its lineup history there and it looks like the poorest in years.

It's funny, how different people's tastes are. There were loads of people raving about the first announcement, saying that it was the best in years. I think it's ok so far but I am definitely hoping for some good additions over the coming months. There's about 6 or 7 I'm looking forward to but last year there was about 20. A good few of them were added in July/August though, so I'm optimistic. I have to be, I got an earlybird ticket :pac:
    Scien wrote: »
The next few announcements would want to include some heavy hitters or I think they'll be left with a sizable chunk of tickets.
3 months to go yet though so I would presume more headliners are to come.

I think Arcade Fire, Chemical Brothers, Pulp & Interpol are our lot, headliner wise.

Not to be a complete hipster wannabe, but I suspect the line up is a little ahead of the trends. It's a pretty great lineup, it's just that the names aren't huge. Folks like Twin Shadow aren't big yet, but I suspect they will be shortly.

Gil Scott-Heron died yesterday aged 62. Very sad news about a very talented man.

    Gil Scott-Heron died yesterday
He was incredible at last year's EP. He recently collaborated with Jamie XX on "We're New Here". It's pretty damn good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 389 ✭✭boosh_fan

He was one of the highlights of last year's EP for me too. Myself and a friend just wandered in to check him out while everyone was at Leftfield & we were blown away by him. It's sad to hear the news today.

I doubt the big names have all been announced yet. Undoubtedly they went for a very top heavy announcement to try and get a jump on Oxegen but there'll be plenty of well-known bands to be announced in the coming months. I seem to remember July as being a big month for announcements.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,221 ✭✭✭BrianD

I wouldn't imagine that there's any more big names to be announced.

It's much tougher to sell tickets these days and there is no way you'd be holding back on some "decision making" acts until now with only 3 months to go.

I'm sure there'll be a few smaller acts that no doubt will please some people but I think you're seeing the bulk of it.

Anybody think Odd Future could be added? There playing a show in Northern Ireland just before it so might make sense... not sure if they're a picnic type band but they're playing alot of festivals this Summer. I know they're playing Oxegen but really don't want to go there again...

Anyone think Amanda Palmer will play? She's on her European tour at the time and she has date in London on the 2nd and on the 5th, making her free for the Sat and Sun of EP :D She'd really fit EP well!

Will many more be announced anyway?

    Hey there,

I was at EP last year and stayed in the Tangerine Fields. They were ok but definitely not worth the money we spend on them.

We are going back this year and are looking at Tipis/Yurts(http://www.hearthworks.co.uk/) and podpads (http://www.podpads.com/book-now-details.asp?festival_id=15) . The prices aren't too bad and they certainly seem to be better value than the tangerine fields.

I'm wondering if anybody has stayed in any of the alternative camping options before and what would they recommend?

    Thanks!

To tell ya the truth this will probably get moved to the bigger EP thread, sorry I cant help you with your query but I found it no problem just camping at the Hendrix campsite myself.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Stayed in Podpads a few years ago and found it very good. My wife hates camping so she was happy to have a solid structure and a shelf. You also get access to the late bar, complimentary tea/coffe etc.
I thought if was a bit expensive myself but if you want more comfort its great. They also ask for a €50 deposit which is refundable but when you are looking for it back they suggest giving it to charity.
You'd think that they could easily afford to give some of the €520 you paid to charity rather than trying to give the deposit.

Has anybody ever done the volunteering for a weekend ticket? In particular the advance volunteering. Is it worth it for the free ticket?

I loved it. Not a doss like, but it's a lot of fun and a cool new perspective on the festival.

The only thing I would say is this - if you're given an instruction, make sure you're absolutely clear on absolutely everything about it, before yo start workYou'll probably be teamed up with somebody, but to a large extent you're sort of on your own out there, so it's up to you to equip yourself with all the stuff you need to know first. Times, locations, contacts, who's going to relieve you, everything. Ask everything then, when you're being briefed, because it can be hard to pin somebody down again and find an answer, once you're actually at your post or doing your thing.

The folks training you in might be pushed for time, or it simply might not occur to them that you're not rigorously familiar with the layout and workings of a festival site, so make sure and be as informed as you possibly can be before a possibly issue arises. Find out who you need to contact if there's a problem, and how you should contact them.

That's pretty much the only issue I had though, and after the first day, it was grand. Like I say though, I loved it.

    EDIT:

Oh, and you might get a walkie talkie, but if not, figure out who the nearest walkie-bearer to you is, and keep as close an eye on them as you can. They are your lifeline. Bring your phone and get contact numbers just in case, but coverage can be patchy and people can be busy, so keep it as a last resort.

Ive been trying to get volunteering with EP since the middle of May, apparently they are full up with them, no harm though to keep trying, as some will opt out of it nearer the time. The only thing I dont like about it is that you wont get your bond back on Sunday when you complete your shifts, they will post it on to you a week or two later, yet other people get free into the festival for doing damn all apart from knowing someone.
