I'm currently completing a MSc in Computer Science but I've always had an interest in Biology and I was wondering if there was anyone here that completed a course in Bioinformatics or something similar which combines computer science with molecular biology ?

Would anyone know if it would be possible to do directly into a Phd in Bioinformatics from a background in Computer Science ?

Could anyone recommend any Universities in particular or even better, a part-time or distance learning MSc in Bioinformatics ?

    Thank you in advance.

Try here for a bit of background:

I know a few people on the course so if you have any questions just ask

    Thank you.

Would you know of any courses which would be available to complete through distance ?

Unless you go for a PGD or your workplace will allow you to do on project on site for the MSc, it might be difficult and I don't know any. I know the University of Ulster allow distance learning but I don't know if they have a bioinformatics postgrad available.

there is a MSc course in DCU: http://www.dcu.ie/prospective/deginfo.php?classname=MBIO
but I don't think it's available through distance but worth e-mailing them none the less, same with UCC: http://www.ucc.ie/microbio/MScBioinf/

even if they do not have d/learning they may be able to provide assistance
