Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was a bit shocked at the other thread were so many people genuinely saw nothing wrong with prostitution. I myself think it's an abusive way to treat a woman but others seem to think it's fine, so just wondering; Would people have a problem with their mother/sister/friend being a prostitute? Genuinely interested if this forum is full of genuinely very very open minded people or hypocrites? This question is for both genders btw.

i myself have never engaged in hiring/being a prostitute so from what i've heard on tv and all that milarkey sometime you just have to take the good with the bad.

I'd be a bit disappointed if it turned out that my mother/sister/friend was a <insert football club/political party you don't like> supporter - doesn't mean if should be illegal.

Depends on the motives of the person... If it's some woman in her late 30's doing it, that's struggling to put food on the table for her children...it's wrong.. If it's some hottie who can't get enough sex and just wants to make a quick buck, I'm game.

Do not underestimate the sexual firepower of a woman in her late 30s.

Question for the OP, If a woman becomes a prostitute of her own free will, then how is it abusive?

Deffo have a problem with that. A man shouldn't have to pay for sex at home.

I have no problem with women who do it out of greed, (high class escorts etc.) however for women who do it out of necessity then it is rather exploitative. I beleive it should be legalised, taxed and give protection to the women & the few men doing it, offering them the STD checks and medical protection necessary.

Irish men spend millions each year on buying sex none of which is taxed and a large percentage of which ends up in the hands of organised crime mainly thanks to our victorian outdated attitudes towards sex and the catholic interference in our sex lives.

I was a bit shocked at the other thread were so many people genuinely saw nothing wrong with coal mining. I myself think it's an abusive way to treat a man but others seem to think it's fine, so just wondering; Would people have a problem with their father/brother/friend being a coal miner? Just judging from the OP's stance they seem to think it's abusive in every instance, I'd agree there is an exploitative element as many enter the job as a last resort to make ends meet but there are I'm sure women who do it, enjoy it and make a decent living out of it. Granted it isn't a career I'd want for anyone close to me as it probably means their life hasn't worked out as you'd hope but I'm just wondering why the OP has generalised it as abusive as a whole.

Just to be very clear, I didn't say anything about making it illegal. I think it should be legal, with just pimping, trafficking and coercision being illegal. I think that's the only way to keep the women safe.

There's a really long thread in Humanities about this.
Please use that as the discussion there isn't full of puns and witticisms.
