    I'm after a great deal on a 42" 1080p TV please :)

I will be using it for general TV watching and movies (DVD & bluray) both via hdmi from my HTPC.

I'm not bothered about DTT decoders as the HTPC handles all that for me.

I don't care about the built in sound quality as I've a Pioneer amp and monitor audio system which should manage to cope (thanks John :D).

I was eyeing up the LG42LD450 & 42PFL5405H on the website but am open to suggestion.

Budget is between €500 and €600.

I have these TV's in stock and on display if youd like a looksee before you buy.

We sell 'em for €699.99 but I'll pm you a great price;)

The lads in RSB should be able to help you with the LG TV.

Cheers Ash. Thanks for the prompt reply and pm :). I'll wait to hear from the guys in Belfast on Monday and we'll take it from there. I've dealt with John before when I got my amp and surround kit - I used to be on here before but forgot the details and email for the old username and had to register again.

Just a quick update for the benefit of anyone looking at similar...

I called to a large electrical dealers last weekend after my original post and, while both aforementioned televisions were on display, the signal being fed to the LG was never going to be able to show it's potential. However the Philips was sandwiched between a Panasonic Viera and a Samsung and all 3 were showing the exact same HD demo. The difference between the 3 was staggering - the Samsung and Viera both were stuttering on motion but the Philips was smooth as could be. I had always believed the Vieras to be a great screen by reputation and I was stunned - the Philips was miles better.

As a result I went ahead on Monday and picked up the 42PFL5405H from Ashley. I haven't had time to do much more than get it up on my wall mount and a quick setup (may need to tweak the settings a bit more when I get a chance) but I'm impressed :)
