Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BSOD - is my HD drive the problem ?

    Hi,

Have experienced Blue Screen of Death on a few occasions over last couple of weeks. Once during startup and on other occasions doing some intensive stuff (running AutoGK)

Machine is about a year old - never had any BSOD issues previously.

Used WhoCrashed to view mini dump and the Bugcheck code is: 0x7A
    Kernal Data Inpage Error.

A bit of googleing of this error code seemed to suggest that it could be a hardware issue.

    1.
Ran memory test which came back OK.

    2.
Then moved on to the HD and ran chkdsk from start up a few times, but it hanged in Stage 4 on both occasions (even left it run overnight and it did not complete).

    3.
Then downloaded and ran Western Digital Data Lifeguard (its a WD drive)
This also hung during the extended test at about 75% of the way through and produced an error saying that it had "found too many bad sectors".

So should I conclude that the HD is the culprit - backup and have it replaced ?

    Advice appreciated.

Backup and then test some more. Try Crystaldiskinfo to view the SMART info for the drive.

The rule with hard drives is that you should bin them if you're not 100% sure that they're okay. So if several utilities like Chkdsk, Data Lifeguard etc. report that they're not happy with the disk then I'd listen to them.

    Thanks

Ran Crystaldiskinfo and its verdict is "Caution". Its flagging the "Current Pending Sector Count" as not being good.

Looks like I need to dig out my warranty info.

yeh once its gets to the 70 odd percent its not domething that can be fixed by a MBR change or anything like that. cut your loses and testing time and just replace it. WD are usualy very good that way and i have never had a WD fair bar a rapter that was my fault
