Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi guys,

In University of Limerick next Saturday, Guy Gowan is giving a seminar on his post processing methods.

It costs 50 euro to go for students but I'm wondering if it's actually worth spending the money on. Is his techniques any good?

Could anyone who has either watched his DVD or been to a seminar please respond because 50 euro is a good bit of money to spend for a student

    Thanks

he was in my college a few weeks ago. its good, i didnt pay, i probably would have, he teaches a few thing but honestly, he more kinda gets you head in the right way of thinking bout post pro, you walk out with a better understanding, more than a list of colour correction techniques

I've seen him once or twice now. I paid to one and it was well worth it, I don't use any of the techniques anymore but I might use them again in the future.

It all depends on how much you know. If you haven't done much with actions - If it's a fullday for €50, well worth it in my opinion.

For a full day seminar it's cheap. I went to three days in Brisbane recently and learned a lot. The free events are limited because of time, when you have a full day the time is there to go into depth. The techniques he teaches are based on logic and they work really well.

Take lots of notes. It will help you later.

Yes it is worth it. As already said, bring a note pad and make notes.

From what I've seen his seminars are more like infomercials for his DVD's. It can be tough to keep up with what he's doing, even while taking notes. And the DVD's are expensive. I would say if you're a big fan of using Photoshop (as opposed to Lightroom or Aperture) it might be worth it. He gets pretty heavily into actions, layers, calculations etc.

'm gonna be scanning my notes soon, tbh they make sense to me, but for others, i dunno, but i'm willing to pass them about if people would like

I attended a workflow workshop with a few other members of boards last year and I have to say, I use actions from that workshop almost on a daily basis. About 97% of my work has been adjusted using some of his techniques.

    Worth every cent!

Guy Gowan is excellent. Very skilled, and knows Photoshop inside out.

IMO he's more suited to the professional end of the market, eg his workflow methods are excellent for pros needing to produce quality images reliably, consistently and under time pressure.

I found him to be very interesting and informative, but it was not so easy for me to apply his techniques at my level (i.e. amateur tending towards the semi-pro end).

That said, €50 is fairly cheap for a GG workshop so you don't have (too) much to lose.
