Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Christmas Market - IFSC

    Info here

The market opened last night and will run until the 22nd this year.
    Opening times are as follows:

    Mon-Thurs: 12.00 pm - 08.30 pm
    Friday: 12.00 pm - 09.30 pm
    Saturday 11.00 am - 10.00 pm
    Sunday 11.00 am - 8.00 pm

Myself and the other half popped down last night for a look and there seems to be much fewer stalls than before. There is more of a market feel to the place as its not just rows and rows of cramped stalls back to back so its easier to walk around. The floor was pure ice last night but there were staff around putting wood chips on the ground.

The bars had the usual problems...one Erdinger tap working properly for a queue of about 30 people, 10 minutes to get two pints because theres nothing but foam coming out, and the staff forgetting that you did in fact give them the empty glasses and therefore don't need to pay the deposit again. I'd dread to see what it'll be like when it gets busy.

Good mix of food stalls too. The usual bratwurst, and asian, crepes, hotdogs and chips, sweets etc. I would totally recommend the Macaroon stand down on the main dock area. Gorgeous! But the favourite place for us is situated right beside the ban stand - Pie Minister. The most amazing pies! Check them out.

Went yesterday for some beer and grub. Erdinger ran out after the first pint, of two, was poured. This was after waiting over 5 mins to be served. Got a pint of the other beer and was 1/3 head. Only paid for one pint and after giving the glasses back it only ended up costing three fiddy for both so ****e service but got our own back

Same beer problems they have at this every year, and the beer festival and the maritime festival... what I want to know is how you even managed to drink cold beer outside in weather like this?!?!:D I was forced to go for the mulled wine!

We only lasted one pint then headed to the warmer surroundings of the Porterhouse!

I went on the first day. I quite enjoyed it. One of the stall guys told me it was different people running it this year - actual Germans apparently.

Can't say much about the beer, the OH and I had bratwurst and mulled wine, wandered around for about an hour or 2 and then headed home.

It's nothing to write home about, certainly, but good if you're looking for something to do on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Does anyone know if they had Currywurst? Sausages with the curry ketchup sauce? Me and the pals ate unholy amounts of the stuff over the summer in Berlin and would love some more :D

Prices are madness. €6 for a bratwurst. These would be €3 in German Markets.

Yeah, but the booze is fairly cheap so it all balances out in the end :D

I was actually a bit annoyed when I didn't realise onions were extra and thought "that's a bit of a ripoff" but I was out to have a nice day not penny pinch :o

+ 1000. I'm surprised nobody else is mentioning this. For the record, the price of the sausages has risen by a massive 20% since last Christmas - from €5 to €6, while the price of Erdinger has risen 10% - from €5 to €5.50.

These initially ridiculous prices have been followed by ridiculous increases and, as a German friend who came with me pointed out, the same food and drink would be €2 to €3 in a similar market in Germany. Fleeced, by any standard. Is anybody in the DDA able to come forward and justify this?

You'd think that the Dublin Docklands Authority, under whose auspices this market continues, would be more in touch with the current recession - given its latest deficit of €213 million (which Irish taxpayers are covering), thanks to shady deals with Seán Fitzpatrick and company.

It's actually not, and it's 10% more expensive for the beer than last year. €5.50 for 500ml is not cheap. It would have been "average" in Café Insane in 2005, perhaps. In 2010 €5.50 is an obscene price.

AFAIK mulled wine and other hot alcoholic bevvies were 3euro.

As for beer prices, anywhere I've been in the city charges about that for a beer these days. :dunno:

€5.50 for 500ml Erdinger is a completely standard price for basically any pub in Dublin. It's not cheap, but it's not out of line either.

i do not understand why they have erdinger at a christmas market. the Germans normally drink punch or mulled wine at their markets. it keeps out the cold.
5 yo yos is enough to pay for the mulled wine and the souvenir mug is from 208, which makes it look gammy

As rebel heart mentioned above it is a rip off....I can get a pint of good guinness in my local for €3.80...They will not be getting any of my hard earned euros

Nice to see the spirit of Christmas is alive and well!!!

Maybe you should just go to the market and soak up the festive atmosphere and then head back to where ever you're from for the cheap drink.

It is out of line! Pubs are fleecing us!
