The pub opposite McSwiggans in Woodquay does, not sure what it's called but had a pint in there the other week and really liked the place. Then again I'm dead against all these shiny clean pubs.

    Oh and Monroes have one.

They definitely add a lot to a pub I think. Not enough places have one. Same goes for pool tables. Seems hard to find a pub with a pool table that isn't a knacker magnet.

Opp Mc Swiggans is Barr an Chaladh (sp) nice staff, but there might have been a changeover in management recently, as their music isn't as good craic as it was.

In the Dàil today, they have multiple lovely fires. Neachtains have 2 fires.

    Getting more demanding,

anyone know any pubs with turf fires?

Also the salt-house and bierhaus and even the Roisin have fires.

The Roising sounds like a D4 pub :-P

Neachtins sometimes use turf depending on the mood. Saw a blazing fire in Richardsons last night but I was only passing the window.

Almost certain the Bierhaus's fire is turf (or has been in the past anyway)

For its size, I reckon the Dail, 3 or 4 I think, maybe not the most, but it is one of the warmest pubs in town.

Hole in the Wall (best named pub in Galway, IMHO) vs Sally Longs.

    ... no contest really!

Since this was asked last year I'll merge this with that.
Most places mentioned are still open.

I don't know if it's an insurance or fuel cost issue but there aren't enough pubs with open fires in the city.

    Can we make a list?

Monroes has one, although you can't really sit near it
Freenys has a nice one although there's only really one table near it, and it's fair roasting!
Hole in the Wall has a good one, although it's not the best pub for a relaxing pint :pac:
