electricity resets itself

    Hey guys,

    Maybe someone on here can help me.
    Every now and then the power in my house cuts out for a second and comes back on.

    It happens at random times, with the usual appliances running(haven't narrowed it down to a specific appliance anyway)

    Would it be a problem in my house or would in be a something on the grid?
    Keep forgetting to ask a neighbor :p

    is it lights and sockets ?

    and is the voltage dipping ? ie:brownout

    yes it's both lights and sockets.

    No idea what the voltage would be.

    This has been happening since well before our current cold snap.

    it may be a problem at the consumer unit or ESBN


    by voltage dipping i meant lights 'dimming' etc

    No all lights and sockets go off completely for a second

    you may need a sparkie first

    -and then if the 'installation'(house)checks out ok call ESBN

    Is there some way a sparkie can check for that?

    Because i dont know how to reproduce the issue. it all seems very random at the moment

    See if it happens to any of your neighbours first, if not then it's more than likely something in your own installation

    i would prob check consumer unit,check voltage drop,
    and L-N loop impedance

    Last time i seen that exact thing was loose connection at next doors esb main fuse, on the loop into the affected house, so it could be a loose connection if only your house is affected. I got them to put on the shower in the house and that would put all the lights off because of the load on the bad connection, then they would come back when only the lights were on. So that indicated a bad connection, i could hear it as well when standing at the MCB board even though the bad connection was in next doors meter cabinet.

    agree with above posters
    most likely a loose connection
    to help reproduce the issue an electrician might try turning on big load appliances(cooker,shower,immersion,electric heaters)
    and check connections at the consumer unit
    remember safety is paramount and fires have started because of loose connections,so i would recommend a sparks take a look

    Yes id agree, when i mentioned i got them to put the shower on in above post, i was in the house myself when i get them to do that, before i got there when they called me i told them to avoid using anything heavy.
