Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Disappearing yellow boxes

    Hi,

Is it okay to park on double yellow lines if they are not visible with snow, (stop on yellow boxes etc). On the flipside are you expected to clear snow/ice to check if the parking spot you are going into is not restricted in anyway.

Just wondering as was passing Blackhall library today, and saw alot of cars parked on the side of the road which aren't normally there.

Traffic wardens in Naas have apparently been told that they cannot ticket cars who cannot see the lines. Dont know how true this is but Ive heard it from a few people. Obviously implied yellow lines such as at junctions, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings etc still apply.

I suppose if youre not familiar with an area then how are you to know if there are double yellow lines under an inch of solid ice if there are no signs.

It's not the double yellow lines that make parking illegal, it's the traffic bye-laws. The DYLs are put there to save you having to carry round a copy of the bye-laws and having to consult it every time you want to park!

Unless the nearby signs are plastered with snow as well....

Yeah, its rare that we have 3m of snow covering the clearway and no parking signs.

I rang up Dublin City Council to see if they were clamping as a vehicle couldn't get up a lane way and had to stay on the street. They said that if the snow stays as it is, covering the lines that they can't clamp, but if it were to thaw out and the lines became visible then you'd risk clamping.

I've seen a load of cars sitting in hidden yellow boxes, in heavy traffic, causing mayhem. OK, so they can't see the yellow box, as such, but surely they can see that by moving forward into that space in slow moving traffic they're blocking a junction. Yellow box or not it's no excuse.
