Industrial Design & Architectural Technology

Well I'm planning on heading to Carlow I.T next year and have a few questions just thought maybe someone on here could help.

I have what I want to do narrowed down to 2 courses.

Industrial Design + Architectural Technology.


I think I have the jist of the Industrial Design but if anybody has any info I would greatly appreciate it, time table, projects etc.


But with the Architectural Technology I'm confused. After I do this course am I qualified to do drafts, CAD, Drawings etc. for house design and building design in general? Also info on time table, projects and the likes appreciated.

As a technologist you will learn how to use autoCAD and revit, auto cad is a brilliant 2D drawing tool and Revit is a brilliant 3D drawing tool. When you finish this course you will be qualified to do all planning drawing, construction drawing, fire certificates etc.

dont let the timetable fool you, you would be required to do twice the amount of studio as timetabled, its a very intense course, also its better to be studyin it now than lookin for a job in it? i myself am in third year and dont look forward to tryin to find a job

Industrial Design is a fairly varied course, touch on a lot of aspects of without really going into too much depth in any of them, which is good and bad. Good in that you get an idea of lots of different aspect of design but bad in that you have to do a lot of work outside college hours to get good in the areas you want a career in.

The first two years fairly well balanced are but the level of work in third and fourth year is huge, lots of practical projects so you're always doing something.
